Three weeks later

Fletch watched his mate as she slept. Even now, she had a smile on her lips. He’d like to think part of it was from the number of times they’d made love the night before, but he knew having her family close was a big part of it, too. Hadley had gone into labor the previous afternoon and given birth to a beautiful baby girl. Even Fletch had fallen a little in love with the tiny baby. That little girl was going to have six uncles to help her dad watch over and guard her. Six, because Milo was definitely a part of all of them, as well.

“Morning,” Helen whispered, pulling him out of his thoughts. She stretched, her nipples peeking from the covers to tempt him. “How long have you been up?”

He eased closer, letting her feel his erection. “One glance at you, and I’m up.”

Her laugh turned to a moan as he rolled her under him and moved between her thighs. His cock found her immediately, wet and ready as he eased inside. She was always ready for him. Always accepting. He tried to keep things slow and sweet, but just like every time, as soon as they came together, his intentions went out the window as sensation took over. The feel of her skin, the scent that was uniquely them. The way she fit him as if they’d each been designed with the other in mind.

He couldn’t stop kissing her. Her lips, the curve of her jaw, the slender column of her neck. Her hands held his shoulders before gliding down his sides to grasp his buttocks before sliding back up.

“Roll over,” he urged as he pulled out of her then helped her to do as he’d asked.

She immediately rose to her knees, pressing her chest to the bed, hands over her head, fingers fisted in the covers as she offered herself to him. He gripped her hips, plunging deep once more with a hard groan.

“Yes,” Helen moaned. “God, yes.”

He rode her hard, each stroke of his shaft deep, filling her with him.

“You feel so good,” he shared with a growl rumbling in his chest. “I want to see you pregnant, Helen. A perfect blend of us growing inside you.”

“Yes!” she cried again.

Harder. Faster. He took, and he gave. He’d been ready to leave. To search the whole world for something that was missing. Something both he and his bear were searching for. Yet, Helen had been right there all along. Hidden from him until she finally made her way into the light, and in doing so, she brought light into his life. She brought everything into his life.

“Fletch!”

He felt her sex flutter around him and knew she was close. Moving his hand from her hip, across her belly, then lower to the juncture of her thighs, he found that hard kernel and rubbed his thumb over it before giving it a light pinch that sent her over the edge with a loud cry. With a few more thrusts, he followed her, yelling out his pleasure as it washed through him.

They were cuddled together, still catching their breaths when he tilted his head at the sound she made.

“Was that?”

Her eyes were wide as she nodded.

“Oh, God! I can feel her, Fletch. I feel her.”

She had both hands pressed against her chest as she blinked back the tears that left her eyes luminous.

“It’s working,” she whispered. “The injections. We have to tell Jensen.”

Four weeks. She’d been getting shots from Jensen for four weeks. Shots aimed at countering what she’d been given by the hunters who’d taken her. They’d suppressed her bear, locked it away so deep inside her that she’d stopped feeling the connection. She’d been unable to access her animal senses or healing ability. Fletch couldn’t imagine being cut off from his bear. Hated that so many of their kind had experienced it. Now, thanks to Jensen Holloway, maybe, they wouldn’t have to anymore.

“After breakfast,” Fletch agreed. “Do you think you can shift?”

“Not yet,” she replied with a shake of her head. “But I can feel her. She’s there, brushing against me. Letting me know she’s with me again. I know she’ll get stronger. Soon, I’ll be able to shift, to feel my fur, to run and climb and ramble through the woods, soaking it all in. Fletch, I can feel her.”

Helen was healing. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. Daily meals had filled out her body. Her nightmares had lessened. It had to help that she was surrounded by love. She’d changed her mind about going into the field to help with the rescue attempts. Instead, she stayed on Holloway land, helping with the few they’d been able to recover. She helped Jensen when she could, but mostly, she offered the survivors the compassion and understanding that could only be expressed by someone who’d once been in their shoes.

“They should be back today,” she whispered, and Fletch nodded.

Delcan, Xandra, Chance, and Woody had followed Lawrence Walker all the way to Washington. He’d caused more trouble there before they’d managed to get to him. Today was the day they should all be arriving. Not just the four who’d left, but most of the remaining Langston den was coming with them. There were still questions. Still too many missing. Change was on the horizon, though. Good things, Fletch hoped. They all deserved as much good as they could get.

“I love you,” Helen whispered as she rose onto her elbow beside him.

“I love you,” Fletch murmured, rolling her under him again. “Let me show you how much.”

“Yes,” she breathed, voice still husky from her earlier screams of pleasure. “Show me.”

“Every day for the rest of our lives,” he vowed softly.

“That sounds like just long enough,” she murmured.

Fletch couldn’t agree more, and as he kissed his mate he knew that whatever those days brought, Helen would always be the light that led him home.
