“Ditto.”

I pull my arm around her shoulders and plant a kiss on the top of her head. “Have you thought much about our future?” I ask her.

She goes rigid as she peers up at me. “Like marriage?”

“Shit… I mean, yeah, eventually, but I’m talking about a little sooner than all that.”

“What do you mean?” Shifting away from me, she pushes herself up against the headboard and tucks her knees against her chest.

“Like a home? I doubt your parents are going to want us moving in there, considering how our second set of neighbors were complaining last night.”

“Yeah, that’s true. Dad might break out that scary spatula again.”

“Don’t joke about that,” I tease. “The man knows how to wield his weapon. I wouldn’t stand a chance.” We both laugh at the thought of Jim standing there in hiskiss the cookapron, threatening me with that fucking spatula.

“Yeah, I think I get my attitude from him.”

I stifle a laugh. “Not the way he tells it.”

“I think it should bother me more that you have had those kinds of talks with my dad when we literally just put a label on our relationship.”

“What can I say? I think your dad might’ve known what we were before we even did.”

“Maybe he did.”

“About that house. I don’t give two shits what kind of house we have so long as you and Harrison are in it. But I know better than to pick it out myself. I want you to get what you want.”

She leans her head back and closes her eyes. I don’t know whether she’s deep in thought or about to fall asleep.

“Are you thinking or sleeping over there?”

“Thinking.” Grinning, she opens those pretty brown eyes and looks over at me. “I’ve never really thought about a house. To be honest, I didn’t think I’d ever be able to buy one.”

“What do you like?”

“I don’t know,” she says shyly, tucking a piece of her dark hair behind her ear. “I guess the biggest thing for me would be a big grassy yard for Harrison. He’s always wanted a big playset, but my parents didn’t have any room for it.”

“What else?” I push. “What’s important to you?”

“A big kitchen. Space to entertain. Maybe a pool. Is that too much? I’ll honestly be happy with whatever we can afford.”

“I’m not rich by any means, darlin’, but if you want a fucking mansion, I’ll figure out a way to get it for you.”

She smacks my chest. “What do you think I am? Some bougie bitch?”

“Are you sure you want a pool? Doesn’t it get cold here? I don’t know shit about either, but if you want one, we’ll get it.”

“Why would it freeze in Austin?”

Wait, what?My heart leaps. “Did you say Austin?”

“I did.” Placing her hand on my chest, she explains, “This isn’t your home, TK, and to be honest, it’s never been mine either. Not since… you know, but it’s where my parents live. I’ve depended on them a lot, maybe too much, and I think it’s time I flew the coop. I’ll miss them, but they’ve always wanted to travel. This is their chance to do that, knowing their daughter is well-cared for.”

I gape at her, unable to believe my ears. “You mean it? You’d go to Austin with me?”

“I would. You were willing to sacrifice so much for me and Harrison, and I need to be able to do the same.”

“And the club? I know you don’t want to live that lifestyle, but I’d still go nomad for you.”
