He lets out a low snarl, then grips my wrists in his hand, holding me down tighter. “Then I guess you’re getting cuffed again.”

“Did you miss out on recess as a kid or something? It feels like your socialization skills need work.”

“This coming from the ever-charming Cinderella. Why don’t you tell me how to best manage your wildfire of a mouth and I’ll take notes?”

“Is that what Cinderella is supposed to mean? How fiery I am? Because you’ve got your English wrong, if that’s what you think. Cinder is a combustible coal, not fire.”

He laughs. “No. I got it right. An ignored fire that’s nearly fizzled out, but ignites at the slightest touch, out of desperation… yet somehow still thinks she’s a princess.” He grins. “Seems on point.”

That must have taken him so many brain cells.

“Whatever you say, Wolfie.”

His eyes turn dark, and he leans in closer to my ear, his tone ragged and rough, leaving heat behind in its wake. “You just earned yourself another lockdown. You’ll learn sooner or later.”

“Another lockdown?” I smile, running my hand over his wide, solid shoulder.

He doesn’t flinch away.

My gaze is on his, my voice seductive, “Maybe I like it when you tie me up.”

He looks away, then back again, his cheeks red. “Maybe you have mental problems.”

“Something tells me you’d be right at home, right next to me in a psych ward.” I lean up toward him, my stare so hard on his that heat begins brewing between us. It’s the same heat I’ve been trying to capture all week. Though now, it’s much less romantic and much more manipulative.

Dante and Luca are somewhere in the room, but I’ve lost track of where they stand exactly. Maybe I do belong in a mental hospital.

The Wolf’s lips brush mine and I’m assuming he’s lost. Instead, I get a surge of electricity that rushes through me. Shock after shock brings life to a body I’d sworn dead an hour ago. I’m kidding myself if I think this is anything other than a trick. He’s kissing me back to gain control. He’s playing into the weakness he knows I have, and I’m not sure I hate it.

Chapter Two

The Wolf

There’s no university for mobsters. You learn from the stories your predecessors told, and you learn from experience. Pickpocketing when you’re a kid, electronic laundering as a teenager, bank heists as a young adult. You have to prove yourself as an asset to the group, even as a family member.

Right now, my father would be ashamed. I’m letting a woman control me with her sexuality. This is rule number fucking one in any good code book. If she seduces me with this pretty little mouth and the curves that she’s thrust up against me, then I’m putty in her hands. Putty that’s easily manipulated by emotion and love, something of which I have no interest in.

“Nice try, Cinderella,” I grumble, pushing up off her small frame.

“It’s working, though.” Her gaze stays locked with mine. “Your cock is hard.”

“I’m a man. My cock is always hard.”

She laughs, this hideously cute laugh that strains at my heart against my better judgment. “Are you saying men are easily persuaded?”

“No. I’m saying my dick is always hard.” I lean up off her and see the men are still standing at the back of the room. I need to put this woman in her place or I’m going to lose their respect, and my own, in a matter of seconds. “Enough with the talking,” I snap. “Stand up!” I grip her arm tight and yank her from the bed with enough force to look angry, but enough prudence as to not harm her.

“That’s what you want, isn’t it, Daddy?” She lets the strap of her sundress fall off her shoulder as she stares back at me, grinning ear to ear like this isn’t a hostage situation, like I don’t have the means to knock her out and toss her tied up into the open ocean.

I never should’ve let her feel safe. Hell, I never should’ve agreed to watch after her in the first place. I wouldn’t have if I didn’t owe Viktor a huge favor for helping with some exchanges at the docks last month. We had a surplus of our supply and we needed to move it fast before the cops were on our ass. His men got the shipment in and out before narcotics caught on to us.

“Daddy?”I repeat.“If I were your daddy, I’d bend you over my knee right here and spank the sense back into you.”

“Is that a promise?”

I glare at her through seething teeth. She’s got a fucking answer to everything I say.

“Let’s go, Wolf,” Dante says, tapping my shoulder. “We need to figure out our next step before Liam sends more men. We only have until tomorrow night to get whatever was in that box back to him.”
