"Do you want to split this with me?" she asked.

"I won't have to fight Leo for that honor?"

"He's asleep."

"Well, I'll let you enjoy it. So, what are you doing?"

"Watching a movie."

His gaze moved to the television, which was frozen in a terrifying frame of a knife attack. "What the hell are you watching?"

"Something very scary."

"You watch horror movies?" he asked, his gaze filling with surprise.

"I was looking for something to take my mind off my birthday."

"And prevent you from sleeping all night?"

"Probably," she said with a dry smile. "I jumped when you rang the bell. It was just like a scene in the movie."

"Okay, this isn't going to work. Do you have any playing cards?"

"Yes, but I don't need a babysitter, Decker. I'll just turn something else on."

"Or you can show me how good you are at cards. I have to warn you I'm very good."

She laughed. "Why doesn't that surprise me? Is there anything you don't think you're good at?"

He gave her an arrogant but sexy smile. "I'll have to think about that. Cards?"

"Fine." She went into the kitchen to retrieve a deck of cards while Decker turned off the movie. They sat down at the dining room table. "What do you want to play?"

"What do you know?"

"Well, it's been a while since I played anything but Go Fish or Old Maid, but I think I can remember how to play Gin Rummy."

"Let's start with that. Then I'll teach you how to play golf."

"We're playing golf indoors?" she asked with a grin.

"It's a fun card game."

"And something you're very good at."

"You said it; I didn't." He grinned back at her with a cockiness she found incredibly sexy and appealing. "Why don’t you shuffle and deal the cards?"

As she shuffled, she said, "Did you play a lot of games with your dad when you were growing up?"

"We played a lot of card games on our travels. It was the easiest game to take along. We'd play on long flights, waiting at airports, sitting in rooms in hostels or on beaches in remote areas with no Wi-Fi or other electronics. We had to go back to the basics."

"That's so interesting. To be exposed to the world through action, not just playing a video game or looking online. You were there. You were living your life."

"To be honest, I think sometimes I would have preferred to play a video game, but it wasn't an option most of the time, and I got used to low-tech entertainment."

"I want Leo to have a lot of low-tech entertainment, too. I really encourage him to make up his own games. I want him to think, to use his imagination, not to just be a spectator."

"Well, that kid has a huge imagination, so I think you'll be successful."
