"I know why you told me to leave, Decker."

"Do you?" he asked, searching her gaze for the truth.

"Yes," she said, not looking away.

He drew in a sharp breath. "I heard Joel was back, that you were out with him. So, why are you here?" he asked, thinking how spectacularly pretty she looked in a short black dress with her hair falling loosely around her shoulders.

"Joel and I aren't going to see each other anymore."

His pulse leapt. "Why not?"

"Because he's not the one I want, Decker."

"You told me Joel is everything you want. What changed?"

"You came to town," she admitted.

He immediately shook his head as blood raced through his veins. "I don't want to be the one who breaks up you and Joel."

"You didn't break us up, Decker. It hasn't been right between me and Joel for a long time. And, honestly, when I told Joel, he was relieved. We were both telling ourselves a story about what we wanted, what would make us happy. We were looking too far into the future and not seeing what was right in front of us."

"Aren't you someone who needs to look into the future?" he challenged. "Didn't you say that you couldn't afford to make another mistake?"

"That's how I've been thinking, yes. But it's wrong, and I don't want to do it anymore. I don't want to miss what's right in front of me because I'm worried about tomorrow. Not everything has to last forever."

He could barely process what she was saying, because his brain was focused on only one thing:Chloe and Joel weren't together anymore.

Actually, that wasn't the only thing he was thinking about. Chloe's eyes were sparkling gold, her cheeks flushed, her lips so full, so invitingly kissable.

"Decker?" she questioned.

"I just don't want you to have regrets."

She gazed back at him, her heart in her eyes. "Then let's make it too good to regret."

Her words sent him over the edge. He wanted to make it good for her. He wanted to make it mind-bending fantastic. "Are you sure?"

"No more talking," she said, as she put her arms around his neck.

He grabbed her by the hips, pulling her soft, curvy body against his. Then he lowered his head and took the kiss he'd been craving since the last time his mouth had touched hers. His tongue swept into the moist heat of her mouth and felt like he was tasting a little bit of heaven.

There were no barriers between them, and the floodgates had opened. Desire ran through every nerve in his body. He wanted to taste her and touch her and make her as crazy with passion as he was.

Thankfully, Chloe was on the same page, her hands running through his hair, as she uttered a soft moan of pleasure. He backed her up against the wall, taking the kiss to another level, his body hardening against her soft curves. It wasn't enough. He needed to see her. He needed to feel her. He pulled away and ripped his shirt off.

Chloe's eyes widened in appreciation. "Wow," she murmured. "I've been imagining what you looked like under that shirt for a long time now." She licked her lips as he reached for the snap on his jeans. "Don't stop."

He smiled, then stepped out of his jeans and his briefs, loving the way her eyes glittered with need.

"Double wow," she said, moving toward him.

"Not yet. First, we need to get you out of that dress." He spun her around, so he could pull down the zipper of her dress, and his eyes feasted on her beautiful back and her lacy underwear as the dress fell off her body, and she stepped out of it. As she turned around, her breasts spilling over the cups of her bra, he put his hands on her, and she sucked in a quick breath as he took another kiss, his fingers slipping under the edges of her bra.

She gasped as he played with her breasts. He could feel her trembling, or maybe that was him. Lifting his gaze to hers, he smiled and then unhooked the front clasp of her bra. She helped get the bra off and then pulled down her panties.

And when she moved into his embrace, he wrapped his arms around her and then took her to bed. He wanted to go slow, but the fire was too hot, and their needs were too great. Savoring would come later. Next time, he told himself as Chloe urged him on, as they got rid of the last barriers between them. And when they finally came down from the mountain, he hugged her tight, never wanting to let her go.

An hour later, Chloe still didn't want to let Decker go. She wanted to stay just like this, her head on his shoulder, her arm around his waist, her legs entangled with his. Her body was still humming from the passion they'd shared. And she really, really wished she could stay the night. But it was getting late, and she had a babysitter who would need to go home not too long from now.
