“Nope,” Phoenix pops the p. “But there’s always tomorrow night,” she throws over her shoulder as she saunters farther down the bar.

Trix shoots me a look and I swallow hard while, somehow, knowing what this means. Phoenix isn’t one for commitment. That’s fine. Nothing is going to stop me from making her mine.

I just need to get her to see that I’m right here and I’m not going anywhere.

CHAPTER 3

PHOENIX

He’s here again and he’s watching me. I remember when I first looked into his eyes. It was like knowing you were about to reach out and touch something hot, something you knew was going to burn you, and do it anyway.

I can’t explain it and it scared the hell out of me.

That was weeks ago and he’s been at Aces more than once since then. He hasn’t come back with his friends though. He arrives by himself and leaves by himself. He doesn’t always sit on my side of the bar either and it seems as if he’s content to watch me.

It should freak me out completely, but it doesn’t. Surprisingly, I get a sense of comfort knowing he’s there watching me. It’s different from the way I feel knowing the security guys who work for Aces are doing their job.

It makes no fucking sense.

The other thing which doesn’t make sense is how I’ve had no interest in picking up a guy for a night of fun since the moment I locked gazes with him. I don’t even know his name. He watches me and I swear my body tries to put on a damn show whenever he’s around. My hips sway and my nipples get so hard I can’t imagine it’s not obvious to anyone who looks at me.

He makes me flustered. I don’t remember the last time I’ve had this kind of reaction to a man.

I knew the moment he walked into the club tonight. It was like the air around us changed—it became charged and full of tension. I don’t know how much longer I can take this.

He’s sitting in my section tonight while nursing a whiskey with the top few buttons of his shirt undone. He’s not showing much, but every time I look at the exposed skin, my mouth waters.

We’re coming up on last call and I can’t take it anymore. I don’t know what his deal is, but the way my body lights up just from him watching me has gotten under my skin. I can’t ignore it anymore.

I make my way over to him, his eyes boring into mine with every step I take. The lighting in Aces hasn’t allowed me to see what color his eyes are, but I can feel the intensity on my skin every time he’s been here. Maybe if I spend the night with him then I can shake this feeling and get back to my life.

The strange hold he has on my libido hasn’t been sitting right with me. I haven’t even been able to touch myself without thinking of the way he lights my body on fire as he watches me. I’ve never had a problem getting off before and now this guy has come out of nowhere and messed up my whole flow.

I lean over the bar and smirk. “You’ve been here a lot and can’t keep your eyes off me.” His eyes widen slightly with the way I’m calling him out. “Were you planning on actually talking to me or has your plan just been to watch?”

He reaches over the bar and captures a lock of my hair, rubbing it between his fingers, his eyes never leaving mine. “Well, little Firestorm, I do like to watch you. You’re gorgeous and you’ve had my cock harder than a rock for weeks now.” A slow grin spreads across his face. “I fully plan on doing more than talking to you.”

My voice is breathy, “Oh? What did you have in mind?”

“I’d rather show you than tell you.” He cocks his head to the side, his eyes moving away from mine and roaming over my face as if he’s trying to memorize every detail. “I’m Rhett. You should know what name you’ll be screaming.”

It feels like more words are hanging on the end of his sentence, unspoken. The realization sends a shiver down my spine. There’s a promise in his eyes and it has nothing to do with pleasure. It feels bigger. It feels like something I should run away from.

Instead of running, something I refuse to do, I lean back and cross my arms which push my tits up. His eyes don’t flick down to take in my cleavage and it’s sexy as fuck. The lights flash indicating last call and it takes me by surprise. I look at the bar to find a few customers waiting for drinks.

“Meet me at the back door,” my voice is husky and full of need.

When Rhett gives me a nod, I have to force myself to turn away and get through the end of the night. It’s a damn good thing I’ve done this for years because I’m moving on autopilot. The entire time it feels like my body is buzzing.

I don’t see Rhett slip away from the bar, but I know when he’s gone because I swear I can breathe a little easier without his eyes on me. Trix arches an eyebrow at me in question, but I wave her off. I know she’s noticed him. The sly little smiles she’s sent me are enough to tell me she is very aware of what’s going on.

After pushing through the door in the back and out into the cool night air, I take a deep breath while tilting my head toward the sky. When an arm snakes around my waist, I don’t jump because there’s something about his touch which tells me it’s Rhett. My eyes open slowly to see him looking down at me with raw hunger.

The lighting isn’t great, but this is the first time I’ve been this close to him. I knew he was tall, but now it’s clear that he probably has almost a foot on my 5’3” height. He’s not overly muscular, but he’s no slouch either.

“You good, Phoenix?”

The deep voice behind me has me startling slightly and I tear my eyes from Rhett’s to look over my shoulder. Tex is standing there, a knowing smirk on his face. Yeah, it’s not the first time he’s seen me leave with someone for the night. I appreciate how he always checks on me though.
