“Haynes!” I choked out.

Haynes shook me like a rag doll and hit me again.

“You murdered my brother, bitch!” Officer Haynes growled.

“I did not! He came after me!”

“And you shot him, you fucking mongrel! Killed my flesh and blood, a man superior to your polluted roots!” Haynes growled, and I saw insanity in his eyes.

“How the hell are you free?”

“Escaped after my brother’s funeral. And that just makes shit worse. Because you freed my whore too!” Haynes snarled.

My head was spinning. Hayne had been locked up for weeks, and Andy Haynes had been dead for another week. Who had looked after Aimee? Somebody had! Which meant there could possibly be another motherfucker searching. Aimee had no idea.

I struggled against Haynes’ grip. But Haynes was prepared for everything. A knee to the nuts, and he moved backwards. I scratched his hands, but he held on. Frustrated, I tried head-butting him, and he jerked away. Panic welled as I knew I was well and truly trapped.

“Time to die, you cunt,” Haynes snarled. “And then I’m going to find my bitch and make sure she never leaves me again!” Haynes dragged me to the water and kicked the backs of my knees. As my legs collapsed, Haynes shoved me forward, face first, into the stream.

My mouth had been open when my head entered as I’d tried screaming, and I swallowed water immediately.

Within seconds, my lungs burned as I choked and struggled to find air. Panic was out of control as I did everything possible to free myself from this torture. Klutz and my baby welled in my mind, and I knew I was about to lose everything.

“Any sign?” I urged desperately.

Calamity shook his head. Aurora was missing, and I’d no idea who, why, or when. Savage had seen her car in the parking lot as he checked her business and noticed the animals inside. Luna had somehow broken free and was growling and biting anything that came close. That included Savage. Slate had been discovered slumped behind a trash can and was currently being monitored in the hospital. Savage was with him, although he had called in straight away, and we’d met in the car park just as the ambulance arrived. I’d asked Rosie, who’d come with Calamity, to take the animals home.

“Haynes escaped. Asshole was out for his brother’s funeral and slipped from the guards. What’s the bet he has Aurora?” Jett said, hanging up the phone.

Pain hit my gut. If Haynes had Aurora, he’d make sure she’d suffer. Shit, was this mess ever going to stop?

“I’ve called in allies. They’re all looking. Do you want me to call in the other MCs?” Calamity sought.

“No, they won’t arrive in time to find Aurora. Can you ask Mac or Leila to chase Haynes down? Hayne is gonna stay local but isolated. He must have somewhere to go,” Jett asked Calamity.

“Hawthorne said he’d get Leila on it. Leila’s digging into his financials and his family. If there is anything there, she’ll spot it!” Calamity replied.

I paced back and forth. Hanging around the shop wouldn’t find Aurora Victoria. I needed to be riding and looking for Aurora. Determined to find her, I swung away from my brothers and mounted my motorbike.

“Where are you going?” Calamity demanded, his hand shooting out and grabbing my bike.

“Need to ride, have to be doing something,” I replied curtly.

Calamity acknowledged me and stepped back as Harley walked up and got on his motorcycle.

“Then I’ll be your cover,” Harley said.

Without answering, I throttled the engine loudly and pulled away.

Aurora

Water spewed from my mouth as I rolled onto my side, gasping. It kept pouring from me as I gagged and struggled to breathe. A small hand rubbed my back, and someone made soothing noises.

“It’s okay, you’re fine now,” a woman spoke, and my scattered thoughts tried to place her.

“Aimee?” I stuttered through gagging.
