She nodded her head, suddenly deflated. Fuck, what I’d do to see that hopeful look in her eyes again.

“We’ll take you to see her once she wakes up,” I promised. It was going to happen either way. Granny had lied to us about who she was, and I wanted to know why. Granny had always been one to keep secrets, but I’d never known her to outright lie to us.

“Okay,” she whispered sadly before turning to gaze back out the window. Luckily, it was only another ten minutes before we turned onto the long dirt road that led up to the gates of the club. The moment the gate appeared, I pressed the button on the visor that signaled the guard on duty to open it. The signal carried my personal identification code. It prevented me from having to stop and wait for the gate to be opened.

I gave Mac a two-finger salute as I drove through. The man tilted his head at me, curiously eyeing my passenger. As co-president of the club, I wasn’t required to sign in my guests. Not that I’d ever had any. The only guest would be Granny, but she had her own access code.

Venturing a peek at Freya, I saw her sit up in her seat, eyes wide as she took everything in. It was a sight to behold, that was for sure. The dirt driveway curved through an open field on either side. In the distance, a secondary road forked off toward the old barn we used as a weapons stash. There were wooden fences lining the road closer to the main house. Wolf and I had converted an old lodge into the club’s main building. We’d added on to the back to make room for the singular dorm rooms that each of the brothers claimed. Attached to one side of the house was the club’s personal garage. We had one in town for business that Wrench ran, but this one was just for us. The club was never more at ease than when shooting the shit and working on our motorcycles.

Farther down the driveway, there was a small road that led to the lodgings Wolf and I shared. We didn’t stay there all that often. Something that would change now that we had Freya. We had separate dorms at the lodge, and sharing her would be easier in our own accommodations.

Parking the cage in front of the lodge, I exited and went around to help Freya out of the other side. She’d already opened the door and was slowly getting out by the time I made it around. Using my body to cage her between the cab and the door, I bent down until we were eye to eye.

“When you’re in my truck, you wait for me to open your door,” I warned her, my voice low. The little omega shot me a glare that could curdle milk.

“I can open my own door, thank you.”

I gave her an indulgent smile. “Not when I’m around. Or Wolf,” I told her. “Do you hear me?”

Her stormy gray eyes darkened, flashing with fire. I could feel her wolf edging toward the surface of her mind. What power it held. I had an inkling that Freya was much more than just a simple omega. I’d bet that there were a decent number of alpha genes floating around that made her more resistant to our own alphas.

She would learn that it didn’t matter. Freya was our mate. Our omega. And she would learn to obey us.

“Try me, Red,” I breathed in her ear as I palmed her ass, reminding her of how I could punish her. “I’d love a reason to turn that ass red again.” Her glare faltered at my threat, but she didn’t look away. Brave girl.

“Fine.” She shook her head slightly. “Whatever. Can we go now?”

“What’s with the sudden attitude?” I asked her. “What happened to my docile little mate?”

Her lips twisted in a sneer. “Don’t pretend like you know who I am,” she snarled. “You know nothing about me.”

“I know more than you think.”

Freya scoffed and shook her head again. “No, you really don’t. Just like I don’t know you.” There was a sad note to her words, and I opened my mouth to say more, only to be interrupted.

“Hunter,” Wolf called from the porch. “Church.”

Fucking great.

Red managed to slip past while I was distracted. She strode up the porch toward Wolf, her eyes dimmed and lackluster.

What the fuck was I missing?

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

What the ever-loving fuck?

Who did he think he was, demanding that I wait for him to get out of the car? And punishment? Seriously? There was no way I was going to admit how much my pussy had clenched when he threatened to redden my ass again. No fucking way.

Then the fucker had the gall to tell me he knew me. Hunter didn’t know me. He couldn’t tell me he knew me when all he had seen was a file. He didn’t know what made me laugh or what my favorite color was. He’d never bothered to ask what I wanted. He’d just taken.

And, okay, I’d admit that I enjoyed what he’d done to me. I wasn’t going to pretend to be some experienced goddess in bed. I was far from it. But still, he hadn’t asked if I wanted to be mated to him. He’d assumed and taken what he thought was rightfully his.

It wasn’t, and I hadn’t wanted it.

Except—I had to have wanted it in order for him to be able to bite me. The mark would have faded if it had been forced.Doc Monroe’s book had talked all about mating marks. I’d paid attention. The thought of having a fated mate out in the world that would take me away from the horrors of my life had been a dream that kept me going. Not that I’d thought I would ever find one, but the dream was nice.

Well, I had gotten my wish. The universe had laughed at me and had apparently decided that one mate wasn’t enough. No, I had to havetwo. One who refused to answer my questions and demanded my obedience, and the other who was currently looking down on me as if I were the cause of all his woes.
