She grins, showing off her perfectly white straight teeth. “I need to talk to you, Mikey. Friends talk, right,” she states, touching my chest flirtatiously again.

I glare at her. “Seriously, what are you playing at?”

I try to find Christine but Camila places her hand on my cheek to keep me looking down at her.

“Shush, just relax, Michael. This is for your own good. Now laugh,” she orders.

I stare at her like she has grown two heads. “Are you kidding me?”

Her face takes on a serious look and I decide to oblige. This is already weird enough. I let out a chuckle that sounds fake even to my own ears. Camila appears affronted.

“Really, that’s the best you’ve got?”

I grin. “I would put in more effort if you told me why I should. I get motivated when I have a goal.”

It’s while Camila is shaking her head in disappointment that Christine walks up to us. She stares at Camila’s hand on my cheek before looking at me.

“Can I talk to you?” she asks.

I all but push Camila away.

“Of course you can.”

Camila shrugs and gives me a wink while I lead Christine into the house. We head up to my room, and she turns to me as soon as we’re in private.

“So what? You’re going to fuck me and then shamelessly flirt with your ex right in front of me?” she demands angrily.

CHAPTER20

CHRISTINE

I’m having trouble keeping my emotions in check right now, which doesn’t happen often. But with Michael, it’s like all sense of logic just flies out the window. He’s great at taunting me and especially good at driving me crazy.

But I never expected him to act like he did with Camila right in front of me. He’s still staring at me silently.

“Well? Aren’t you going to say anything?”

He lets out a breath. “I understand you’re jealous, Chrissy—”

I blow out a breath. “That’s a really bad start to that sentence,” I tell him.

He’s beyond clueless. It’s frustrating.

“Okay, okay. I just need you to know that nothing is going on between Camila and me. She’s a friend.”

“She’s your ex-girlfriend,” I argue. “And the two of you were acting pretty cozy out there.”

“Yeah, I don’t know what she was doing. But I swear to you, Christine,” Michael states, moving closer,“you’re the only woman I think about. The only one I want to be with me.”

My throat runs dry but I have the good sense to take a step back from him. Close proximity to him makes it hard for me to think. “Why does it feel like you’re gaslighting me right now?”

Michael laughs. “That’s a little dramatic,” he states. “I’m not gaslighting you, I’m being honest.”

“Like you’ve been honest this entire week, since the moment we slept together?” I burst out.

“You were ignoring me,” he says in frustration.

“Because I had no idea where your head was at. In case you haven’t realized, the last time we slept together, you kicked me out of your house and then I got knocked up. I was scared you felt that way again.”
