“We both made mistakes. Agreed?”

“Agreed,” she reluctantly admitted. “Although you made more mistakes than me.”

Ryshi rolled his eyes. That was as good as he was going to get from the stubborn female.

“And you will always have a home at the Oasis.”

Zena glared over his shoulder at Sofie. “With her?”

“Yes.”

There was a short pause before Zena heaved a resigned sigh, clearly sensing she wasn’t going to win that particular argument.

“Fine.” With a shiver she glanced around the barren cell. “I just want to get out of here.”

“Return to the Oasis. I’ll contact the staff to have your room prepared.” With a last squeeze of her fingers, he returned to stand at Sofie’s side, gazing down at her pale, perfect face.

“What about you?” Zena demanded.

“I’ll join you later.”

Zena narrowed her eyes. “How much later?”

He dropped a kiss on the top of Sofie’s head. “Probably much later.”

The young jinn looked as if she was considering another tantrum; then, catching the warning in Ryshi’s eyes, she instead tossed her hair and sent him a smile of pure challenge.

“Good. I haven’t had a decent party in years.”

Blowing a kiss in his direction, Zena shifted into her smoke form and drifted out of the cell. Ryshi waited until her presence had faded from the dungeons before he sent his mate a small grimace.

“I apologize for my sister,” he murmured, turning to wrap her in his arms. “I guess that being locked away for years did nothing to tame her volatile temperament.”

Sofie reached up to thread her fingers through his hair. “She’s certainly going to keep our lives interesting.”

Leaning down, Ryshi brushed his lips over her mouth. “Hiding in your mountain lair is sounding better and better.”

Sofie allowed her fangs to lengthen, her eyes smoldering with a hunger that pulsed through Ryshi.

“As long as we’re together.”

“Together.” Ryshi swept her in his arms, heading for the open door of the cell. “Forever.”

Epilogue

Levet was on his way to the throne room when a golden-haired female attired in a sparkling gown appeared from one of the side corridors. Although she wasn’t in her gargoyle form, he easily recognized his aunt Bertha.

“Ah. There you are.” His relative sent him a chiding glance. “I have been searching for you everywhere.”

Levet ignored the chastisement. He’d been returned to the merfolk castle beneath the ocean by the goddess, and because he had no desire to leave Inga’s side, he’d stayed there. It wasn’t as if he’d been hiding.

Besides, he was much more interested in how his relative had managed to catch him by surprise.

“How did you get in here?” he asked.

Bertha shrugged. “Hades opened a portal for me.”

Levet clicked his tongue. “Inga is going to have to put up some sort of god-repellent around the castle. They keep opening gateways.”
