When Chris begrudgingly pulled away, he blew out a huge breath. “Fuck, Vivian.”

“Yeah . . .” she replied, lifting her fingertips to her lips.

Chris groaned. “Ugh. I gotta go. But I’ll text you about dinner in a bit, okay?”

Viviana stepped back and smiled. “Sounds like a plan.”

He started to get in the truck then stopped himself. “Wait. One more?” He grinned playfully.

Viviana giggled and lifted on her toes for one more kiss.

“Get back to work,” she said with a huge, beautiful smile. “And be safe.”

“You too. I’ll text you in a little bit. Dinner. No take backs,” he said, giving her a pretend stern glare.

“No take backs,” she said with a laugh.

Chris watched her jog back to the front doors of the hospital and groaned.

I am so fucked.

ChapterSix

Viviana

“Holy shit,” she muttered to herself after she was sure he’d driven off.

She grinned all the way back to the nurses’ station where she knew she’d find Candy.

“Girl . . . That is onefiiiiinepiece you found yourself!” Candy exclaimed. “I mean, holy tough guy hotness. Lookin’ all sexy in his uniform, carrying his weapon. Like, arrest me please, officer, I’ve been a bad, bad girl!” she mocked.

“Oh my god, shut your mouth,” Viviana said, but she was laughing hysterically, in fact she was downright giddy.

“Look at you!”

“Yes, look at me,” she said, laughing. “Seriously, Candy . . . I am not fucking with you . . . Like you saw him! He’s . . .”

“He’s a fucking smoke show is what he is. Did you get a goodbye smooch?”

“We literally just met,” Viviana replied, well aware of what a terrible liar she was.

Candy danced in place and slapped Viviana’s arm. “Oh my fucking god, you did!” She squealed. “He’s delicious isn’t he? I can tell. Scrumptious. Mmhmm.”

“Jesus Christ, you are too much,” Viviana laughed as she replied. She hadn’t stopped smiling since she first made eye contact with him in the lobby.

“Okay, okay. So, what’s next? He brought you coffee, which by the way was incredibly thoughtful. But, now what?” Candy asked.

“We’re having dinner tonight, actually.”

Candy glared at Vivian for a moment and asked, “Whose idea?”

“His,” Vivian replied.

Candy held her hand up for a high five, which Viviana gladly slapped. “Yes, girl. Viviana got her groove back; I can feel it. This is averygood look for you, my friend.” Candy grinned. “You know Valentine’s Day is almost here . . .”

“Oh shut up! Valentine’s Day is stupid. Nobody cares about that shit, except you.”

The call button went off for multiple rooms in their wing, so the merriment had to be postponed further. Viviana went on with the rest of her day, a text here and there with Chris about dinner, and a relatively uneventful shift passed by.
