“What are you doing here?” I asked, completely confused as to where Dakota had gone.

Hailee cocked an eyebrow as she stepped inside and advised, “Maybe you want to put on some clothes first.”

Right.

That made sense.

I made my way back to the bedroom, threw on a pair of jeans and a shirt, and returned to the living room. Hailee wasn’t there, but when I spun around, I saw her in the kitchen. She had a big smile on her face.

“What’s going on?” I questioned her.

Somehow, the grin on her face grew. “Who is it?” she retorted.

“What?”

“I talked to Jessa the other day, and when she told me, I just didn’t believe her,” Hailee started. “I wanted to see it for my own eyes, so that’s why I risked coming out in this weather.”

“You shouldn’t be out driving in this snow, Hailee.”

She rolled her eyes and argued, “But I had to know if Jessa was just exaggerating. And now I know that she’s not.”

“What are you talking about?”

A warm expression washed over her, and her voice became a slight rasp. “You’ve got someone.”

I was about five seconds away from calling Carson and Dylan to find out which one of them opened their mouths. I didn’t think they’d have said anything, but Hailee being here and making this declaration told me otherwise.

“You got this from Jessa?” I asked.

Hailee nodded.

“And where did she come up with this story?” I pressed.

“You.”

“Me?”

Nodding again, Hailee finally explained, “When she came over the other day, she saw that you had some baked goods on your counter. You don’t bake, so she knew they had to come from somewhere.”

Jesus.

Women were ridiculous sometimes. I would never go to someone’s house and make an assumption about what was going on in their life based on a dessert—or any other food, for that matter—sitting on their counter.

I also wasn’t the kind of person who would just show up at someone’s house unannounced because I’d been given some piece of information that didn’t exactly affect my life. But this was Hailee, and she’d spoken to Jessa.

I shouldn’t have been surprised.

When I’d taken too long, considering all of this while still wondering where the hell Dakota was, Hailee spoke again.

“Your silence tells me that we’re right,” she declared. “Not only that, but there’s two sets of dishes in the sinkandthere’s a woman’s sweater and jacket over on the couch. So, I’ll ask again, who is it?”

Shit.

Dakota’s jacket and sweater were here, but she wasn’t.

This made absolutely no sense.

“Did you see someone leave the cabin when you pulled up?” I asked.
