It ducked underneath her blow, and her claw sliced through the small tree. The demon attacked, slashing at Lyra’s thigh. She let out a gasp before grabbing it with both hands and lifting the creature up into the air. It screamed as it slashed at her arms again.

Someone slammed into Lyra from the side and she was instantly thrown off balance, landing hard on the floor. She looked up to see that someone else had arrived on the scene. Seeing as they had punched right through the heart of the demon, Lyra first thought it was a werewolf, but then she saw the face of one of the women who was a member of Levi’s dragon pack. Val growled at Lyra, her face contorting a little, scales quickly appearing all over it.

Lyra got back to her feet, drawing out her claws, ready to defend herself. “Come on!”

“Val, no!” Levi yelled.

“Werewolf!” Val yelled to him.

“We’re not here for that!” Levi replied, catching a demon with a single hand. Lyra watched as he channeled fire through his body and out his arm, setting the demon on fire and holding it in place until it stopped shrieking and dropped to the floor. Val bared her teeth at Lyra before she turned and headed off.

Levi quickly rushed up to Lyra, helping her up. “Are you okay?”

“What are you doing here?” Lyra asked. “What is this?”

She looked to the rest of the forest, running out to see that he had brought his entire pack with him. The werewolves paused for a bit to observe the dragons, trying to figure out what their plans were. Adebayo grabbed a demon, channeling heat through his body and ripping the demon apart, sending blood and limbs all over. He stared right at Aaron, roaring before he turned away.

Emma had a demon pinned down, and she slashed away at it. Val shoved Emma off, driving her claws into the jaw of the creature and ripping its head clean off. Orson turned to see Levi and quickly rushed at him. Lyra ducked as both men slammed into each other.

Levi tried to hold Orson back, but the weight of the Alpha pushed the dragon leader back, his feet dragging through the dirt. Orson threw a powerful blow, slamming Levi to the side before he grabbed the back of the man’s shirt and tossed Levi into a tree. As he bounced off of it, Orson was right in front of him, looking to follow up with another attack, but Lyra used her speed, putting herself between Orson and Levi.

“Enough!” Lyra yelled.

“Out of my way,” Levi growled. Lyra turned around and shoved Levi backward.

“That’s my father,” Lyra warned. “If it’s between you and him, I’ll rip you apart.”

“We got a runner!” Aaron yelled, causing Lyra to see one of the demons make an attempt to escape.

She quickly took off running, acting on instinct alone. If that was the last one, she had to kill it, to make sure there would be no others. As she sped through the trees, Lyra heard the sounds of the dragons around her. Their movement became louder, faster, thumping against the earth as they chased after the creature.

Lyra turned to see Val swipe at her, and she ducked at the last moment, catching the woman’s legs and dragging her to the ground. Lyra felt a knee strike her nose, and she staggered backward, bringing her hands up as Val followed with an attack. Her claws went straight for Lyra’s eyes, and Lyra ducked at the last moment, driving an elbow into the dragon’s gut before grabbing her attacker by the hair and tossing her to the side. The rest of the werewolves caught up, standing beside Lyra, ready to attack. Orson dropped from above and let out a long battle cry, howling loudly.

“Bring it on!” Garret yelled.

Lyra saw that Orson was ready. Her father had suffered enough from the dragons, and he was one moment away from dealing with them, right then and there. She turned to Levi and they locked eyes for a moment, instantly causing the lead dragon to relax. Lyra turned to her father, putting a hand against his chest.

“They’re here to kill the demons too.”

“They’re the only demons here,” Orson spat, ready to attack, with the others behind him. Lyra heard Levi yelling at his own pack, trying to get them to relax.

“I want him,” Garret yelled, leaping through the air and swiping at Orson. Levi caught the man’s foot and slammed Garret face-first into the dirt, pulling him back. Garret stared up at him, his claws and teeth bared at Levi in rage.

“Look,” Lyra pressured her father, “they’re just confused, they haven’t done this before. We’re fighting for the same cause.”

“I can’t fight with a dog,” Val spat, retracting her claws as she stared at Lyra. “I can’t fight for the same cause as any of you creatures.”

“Yeah, well the feeling is much returned!” Emma yelled back.

Lyra looked to Orson. “Dad, no one has to die tonight, let it go.”

“Where’s the demon?” Adebayo asked.

Both sides looked around, realizing that in their scuffle the demon had made a clean escape and was long gone. Orson relaxed, shifting back to his human form. Lyra saw the look in his eye, but she was certain that he was now relaxed. “I’m sorry.”

“You’re going to need to pick a side, Lyra. You can’t keep coming between us,” Orson whispered, before letting out a low-pitched whistle that only the werewolves could hear.

Instantly, they picked up after themselves and vanished into the woods. Lyra was the last of them to go, turning to see Levi standing in the middle of the carnage with his own pack to deal with. But Lyra had seen them in action, she had seen a few ways that they had killed the demons. Save for the last one, they had taken out most of the creatures, and when the last one was killed they would have won.
