Nico lifts his hands and takes one step back. “Got it.” Malachi gives a curt nod. “But I’ll be damned if I’m going to sit by and let them handle this.”

“It’s not your call,” I snap.

Nico rounds on me. Part of me expects Malachi or Harlow to stop him, but they don’t.

“He’s my brother. I didn’t get to take out the rest of the trash, and I won’t let you take this from me too.”

“Mal, handle him,” Harlow orders.

Malachi narrows his eyes. “No,bella.”

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me. I’m with Nico on this. You’re not cutting us out.”

“Are you forgetting who I am?”

“I know exactly who you are,” Malachi counters. “If anyone is forgetting anything, it’s you. We agreed that I won’t interfere with club business, and you won’t interfere with family business.” Harlow opens her mouth to protest but Malachi covers it with his palm. “This, madam president, concerns us all. So we will work together on it, like we have been for the past year.”

I quickly turn away to hide my grin. I love Harlow like a sister, and I will have her back no matter what. But it’s comical as hell to watch a man she once loathed try to put her in her place.

“Fine,” Harlow capitulates stiffly. “We’ll work together.”

Oh shit. Malachi is definitely going to pay for this later.

“Wise choice,” Nico grits.

Harlow glares at Nico, and if looks could kill, he’d be dead. As it stands, he’s practically a dead man walking because I’m not exactly thrilled with his attitude either.

Men should not fuck with women who play with sharp objects like a toddler plays with Play-Doh.

CHAPTER10

Nico

“That’s some bullshit.”

I laugh at Gill, head of security for the casino and one of our best employees at Forza Security. The indignation on his face is so comical that I can’t resist egging him on.

“I guess she likes me better than you.”

Gill stops walking and draws his gun on me. “Take that back,” he demands.

“Put that away,” Malachi orders. “He’s fucking with you, man.”

Gill glares at me for a beat longer, then holsters his weapon. “I can’t believe she didn’t threaten you with the hatchet,” he grumbles. “I’m gonna have to talk to her. She’s going soft.”

He starts walking again, leaving Malachi and me to follow.

“You couldn’t leave well enough alone, could you?” Malachi deadpans.

“He makes it so easy. Besides, who would’ve expected the big guy to get all butt hurt that we still have our balls?”

“You know as well as I do how hard he’s worked to get on Harlow’s good side. He’s sensitive about the whole hatchet thing.”

“I’m not sensitive,” Gill barks over his shoulder.

“Whatever you say, man,” I tease.
