“It’s okay. There’s nothing left to say really.” I stand and press my blade against his throat. “Well, nothing but fuck you, piss off, and good riddance.”

I slit Nicholi’s throat and watch the life drain from the evil twin’s eyes.

Epilogue

NICO

Eight months later…

“You knowI don’t like surprises.”

I hold the blindfold in place over my wife’s eyes and hope I’m not making a huge mistake. I’m fairly certain I’m not, but with this family, one can never be completely sure.

“I know you don’t.”

“Then why are you surprising me?” she grumbles. “And why couldn’t Nicholas come with us?”

Nicholas Craig Ricci was born a few weeks early via natural childbirth. I tried to convince Peppermint to have an epidural, but she insisted that she could handle the pain. As soon as she was done pushing and Nicholas was handed to her, she made me promise to give her the drugs next time.

“Because some things aren’t appropriate for babies.”

“If he’s with his mommy and daddy, it’s appropriate.”

“Do you remember the first time we had sex?”

“Uh, yeah. Not sure what that has to do with anything.”

“If Nicholas would have been in the room, would that have been appropriate?”

“Of course not.”

“Then not everything involving mommy and daddy is appropriate.”

“Fuck you.”

I nip at her ear. “Later, I promise.”

The door in front of us opens, and I guide Peppermint into the meeting room at the clubhouse. I wanted to do this at home, but the internet connection is better here. At least, that’s what Story said. Judging by the lined walls of DHMC members, I think she had another agenda.

My eyes land on Harlow, who’s holding our sleeping son, and she winks. Ah, so this was her doing. It’s probably better this way, to be honest. The more people she has in her corner, the better.

“Okay, we’re here.”

Peppermint’s hands fly to the blindfold, but I catch them in my own and move to stand in front of her.

“Not yet.” When she opens her mouth to argue, I kiss her. I can feel the eye-rolling of the others around us. “Do you trust me?”

“I thought I did. I’m having second thoughts.”

“Be serious,” I chide.

“When am I not serious?”

Several snorts sound around the room, and Peppermint stomps her foot in annoyance.

“Who else is here?” she demands. “Nico, what the hell is going on?”

I glare at them, but then shake my head and decide to go with it. I should know by now that planning anything with this group is pointless. I lift the blindfold and turn my wife in a circle so she can see them all.
