ALEXANDER

I couldn’t ask for a better woman. I had been looking for my future wife, and thankfully Ella was not money hungry. She liked me for me while being smart, funny, and gorgeous. I had never had a woman treat me as right as she did.

Just as I was finishing making breakfast, my phone rang. “Hey, Shawn, what’s going on?”

“You going to that event tonight in New York City?” Shawn asked.

I wasn’t planning on going originally, but if Shawn was going, then I needed to be there. Maybe Ella would go with me. “Sure am. Are you?” This could be his chance to meet Ella.

“I’m thinking about it. Thought I could stop in town, go to that, and then catch up with you after.”

I was excited. Shawn and I had been friends since high school. We were both geeks and got picked on a lot, but we always stood by each other. When I started my company, I offered him a job, and we had been working together ever since. He was one of the best employees I’d ever had. I hadn’t seen him besides work functions, so it would be nice to be able to catch up with him.

I heard Ella coming down the hallway. She appeared in just a t-shirt and panties. “What a mighty fine sight to see,” I said to her with my eyebrow raised.

I grabbed us each a plate, loaded them up, then sat down at the table to eat.

“Babe, I want to ask if you would be my date to a fundraising event for the local children’s hospital tonight?”

I could feel the anxiety from across the table.

“I’ll go with you because you really want me to. But I won’t fit in with the people there,” she answered.

Why did she feel like that? Ella was an intelligent woman who could hold a conversation with the best of them. Honestly, I didn’t think she would have anything to worry about tonight.

“I want you to feel comfortable being with me and attending the things that I have to attend, but I don’t want you to feel pressured. I want you to see what my life is like, and I want to see what yours is like too. At one point, we will be combining our lives together. My driver will be here in five to take you to LA VI. They will help you find something for tonight,” I told her.

Setting this up meant she didn’t have to worry about paying for a thing. I didn’t want her to feel obligated to spend a lot of money on a dress. It was my treat since she was my date.

“Are you sure? You don’t have to pay for my dress. You already paid for so much being with me.” She looked down at the ground, but I raised her chin to meet my eyes.

“I invited you to this which means I must help you pay for whatever you wear. It will be fine; don’t worry about it. I know you’ll look amazing in whatever you choose.”

I needed to get ready myself, maybe even get a new suit. I liked to have new ones for events like this.

After breakfast, I followed her to my driver, gave her a kiss, and shut the door.Go be a princess. Twirling my Audi keys around my finger, it was my turn to go shopping. The perfectplace for an event like this was Men’s Pierre. I got most of my suits from there, and they always fit perfectly.

“Afternoon, Mr. Edwards, what are you needing today?” a young woman asked.

“I have a charity event tonight. Nothing specific in mind. Surprise me.”

The woman went to the computer and pulled up my measurements. I sat down on the leather couch in the waiting area, waiting to see what she would choose.

“What do you think about this, Mr. Edwards?”

She was holding a navy tailored suit. It was perfect.

“Is it my measurements?”

“Yes, sir. We always have a couple in your measurements ready for you. Would you like to try it on?”

“No, I trust you. I’ll take it.”

I followed the young lady to the counter, swiped my Amex card, and went back out to the Audi.

I called to check on Ella. “Everything going okay?”

“Yes, it’s fine. Overwhelming. I’ll see you in a bit.”
