“Because whereelsewould you go?” She’s obviously diving for the sardonicism to avoid my last two words. “Sorry. Guess I was a little tired.”

“AndIguess you had a reason to be. No apologies, okay?”

“Oh, dear God. I drooled all over your chest. Maximus, seriously—”

“You do remember the part about no apologies, right?”

She sighs heavily. “I must’ve really been out.”

“As I’m well aware,” I say with a casual chuckle. “But I also don’t mind.”

It’s amazing to hear her echoing the sound, as soon as she rears up enough to sneak a glance toward my groin. “I wouldn’t believe a single word of that, except for…that.”

I’m not normally the guy with the roguish grin, but it breaches my lips without shame this time around. “Well, now.” I roll my hips with sultry suggestion. “Guess it’s true what they say about demigods and staying power.”

Her head swings back up, revealing the fresh flames in her irises. I grin a little more as their orange light dances along my face.

“Whatdothey say?”

I lower my hands to scrape rough trails around her gorgeous back cheeks. “Want me to tell you…or show you?”

My little demon lowers once more, sliding her chest along mine. The beads of her nipples are like stones along the pond of my composure, rippling entrancing light beams to the edges of my awareness.

“How about…both of the above?” she whispers against my lips. I part them, already licking at her—and reveling in the answering undulations of her sweet little body.

“I think…that can probably be arranged.”

“Of course it can.” She nibbles along my bottom lip. “Because Papa Maximus can doanything.”

At once, I’m blinded again…by happiness. Suffused with so much gratitude and awe, all I want to do is prove her right.

Beginning with giving her the most incredible orgasm of her life.

CHAPTER SIX

KARA

Sunrise over the downtown LA skyline is like a magic trick in slow motion. At first, in the minutes after the streetlights turn off, the heavens extinguish the stars too. The shop lights become a curious patchwork, some turning off while others turn on. The headlight beams of delivery trucks and on-call cars are still brighter than the sky, a rich mix of tangerine, mustard, and thistle—until the moment the sun clears the western hills and bathes the city in a warm golden glow.

The sun bath that, to my delight, includes Maximus’s balcony.

I’m curled up in one of the rustic chairs on the landing, sipping on some herbal tea in yet another borrowed boyfriend T-shirt, when a sleepy grunt fills the doorway behind me. I absorb the sound with as much gratitude as the daybreak on my face. It escapes back out on a wispy sigh, which prompts Maximus into a gruffer sound. Yet another sound I won’t take for granted as long as I live.

“Hey, beautiful,” he adds to it in a sleepy rasp.

“Hey there yourself, Professor.”

“What’re you doing up? It’s not even seven.”

“Just couldn’t sleep.”

And there’s the irrefutable truth of the morning as soon as I twist around to look fully at him. And then all the way up and down him, devouring as much of his fresh-from-the-sheets glory that I can. The flawless V of his torso, with the twin rows of muscle leading below the waistband of his track pants. The breathtaking bulge that takes up the spot between his legs. And his legs themselves, as tall and strong as the support beams for this whole building. Even his feet are captivating, the mighty planks and regal toes dusted with enough tawny hairs to add definition to his flexors, plantars, and accompanying tendons.

So much for any thoughts I had left of going back to bed. Well…to sleep.

As I continue my gawk, I run my tongue over my whole bottom lip. Honestly, how am I this turned-on by hisfeet?

Luckily, he doesn’t give me time to worry about the answer. He’s already paced over to kneel in front of my chair.
