“No.” I shake my head as Harvey hails a cab. I try not to look back, but I can’t help myself.

“Isn’t that the guy from earlier?” Simone asks, squinting her eyes to get a better look.

“I don’t think so.” I reach up and touch my hair. When I glance back, I see Jake has his hand on the lady’s hip, not gripping her, just holding her there. He looks past her to me, and he smirks before he winks and climbs into the car with her following behind him.

Should I have asked if he was single?

That would have been smart, right?

Oh gosh, I never want to be known as a homewrecker. That’s not who I am. And with that though, I start to feel physically ill. Hurrying into an alley, I empty my stomach everywhere. Simone is there instantly, her hand rubbing gentle circles on my back.

“Did you have too much to drink?” she asks with genuine sincerity.

I wipe my mouth as the car drives away with Jake inside.

“No, I just felt—”

“Okay, well, let’s get you home.”

I simply nod as we get into the cab.

Simone and Harvey chat on the way home, and I think of what I just did and how good it felt.

How can something so good be so wrong?

And why am I excited to see him again?

But first, I have to ensure he isn’t married.

Because that is a no-no for me.

It is a line I will never cross.

When I look down at my legs, I wonder why I didn’t ask to begin with.
