She turned in my arms. "You're up early."

"Yeah. Well, you can see why."

She giggled as she lifted the duvet and noted my erection against my stomach.

"See? He misses you already."

She giggled and ducked her head under the covers. "God, you are insatiable."

"Well, I think you have something to do with that as you are the one in my bed."

She lifted her gaze to mine. "This is going to get complicated, isn't it?"

I shook my head. "No. It'll probably get easier now that we're not fighting it."

"Just like that?"

I shrugged. "Maybe not. But I'm hopeful."

"Westin, I—"

I kissed her to keep her from talking.

I didn't want her running or trying to get out of this until we talked. I knew there were going to be tough moments ahead, but I wanted one more kiss before she said something that made the regrets come to light.

One more kiss and then I tried to bring reality slowly back into our lives.

“I need to ask you to do me a favor, please. In light of last night, promise me that you won’t go running off on your own. If you're doing anymore sleuthing, I'm doing it with you. I lost years off my life when you were in danger.”

She chewed her bottom lip, and my attention wavered slightly, but I dragged it back and put a leash on it. We had to talk about this. “I can do that. I feel like I’m in over my head.”

“You’re not alone. Okay?”

"And you were right. I didn’t want Julian to die last night, even after everything he’s done to me.”

“You’re human. And you care about people whether or not they deserve it.”

“Why are you so wise?"

"Well, I made a lot of mistakes. At least that’s what my mates will tell you."

"I doubt that." She bit her lip. “Can I meet them?”

I ran a hand through my hair. How was I going to manage that? She thought Gabe was my cousin. He had pushed me to bug her, and he still wasn’t convinced she didn’t know where the ledger was. He would sell her out to get her father because it would put him a step closer to Igno. And she wanted to meet my fucking mates.

She can meet your mates. She just can't know what they actually do for a living.

That was true. Lachlan and Saint were technically businessmen. They had a real presence in the real world. She wouldn't think anything was amiss.

"You know what? I think that can be arranged."

"Really?" She sat up giddily, pulling the duvet to her chest, which I tugged down. Perhaps a mistake because I immediately became distracted by the view.

"Yes, but first…"

"No, Westin, not now. You said I can meet your friends, and I want to do that soon. I'm dying to know what they are like."

"Yeah, okay, fine. We can make that happen."
