His fingers traced up my arm, and I could feel the coldness melting off my skin as the warmth of love seeped back in. Before I knew it, I was back in his arms and he was clutching me tightly. The last few days of uncertainty and guilt and pain melted away, and I felt how I always did in his arms. Safe.

Now all we had to do was survive this mission.

Nissa

Leave it to me that the first time I got to go to Greece it was under these circumstances.

It was just like everyone said. The water was such a crystal-clear blue it looked like you could dip a glass in and pull out blue water to drink. Of course that was all an illusion from the clear skies making it look like clean water, but I didn’t care. It was beautiful.

All the stark white buildings surrounded us. I knew my father loved Athens, but I’d never actually come on his trips here. But I was not here for enjoyment. I was going to finally close the chapter with my father and after all this time, it would finally be over.

The kicker was, I didn’t know how I felt about it.

"Are you okay?" The deep voice behind me had my blood humming.

Why did his voice always do that to me? Just hearing it was enough to make my libido stand up and purr.

I shook my head. "No. I'm not sure if I'll ever be okay."

"It's almost over, Nissa."

"Yeah, but at what cost? The plan we came up with involves me stopping my life until you can catch Igno. I hate that."

"Gabe already worked it out with your professors. As long as you finish the coursework, you'll be fine. And I promise you, my team is good. We will bring Igno down forever."

"I trust you, I guess. I just… I wanted something different, you know?"

He smiled at me then and sat down next to me. "What does Nissa Montgomery want to be when she grows up?"

I shrugged. "That's easy. Happy. I thought I wanted to do, you know, the translation thing. But once my father is behind bars, I can find a job here in London. Three months ago, I would have told you that I was going to find my sister. I was going to be a lawyer. I was going to do all these things. And now I don't know."

"You look really happy kicking arse. I just want to point that out.”

"This is interesting, for sure. It requires a lot more training than I have, so I'd have to do that."

"I think you'd be good at it."

The heat crept up my neck and into my face. "Thanks."

"It's true."

We sat in silence for a moment, and the words I missed you, please hold me were on the tip of my tongue. Instead, I just nodded and looked back at the water.

It was his deep voice that brought me out of my reverie. "Nissa?"

I turned to face him, and he said, "Just so you know, I meant every word I said to you when we were talking about Lenora. Maybe you think that I was faking it or something, but I wasn't. I don't know what you're going to do with your life, but I'm going to clear the playing field for you so you don't have miles to climb to get to the top. You get to pick your path. I want to give that to you."

The tears were coming, no matter how hard I tried to blink them away. "Why do you have to be like this?"

"Like what?"

"Sweet. You're doing that thing that make me want to believe you, want to be loved by you."

His voice was soft when he asked. "If I said it over and over again, would you believe me?"

I lifted my gaze to meet his. His blue eyes were intent on mine and a lock of hair fell over his brow. "Are you saying it?"
