Two could play that game, she thought. Gianna gave as good as she got, her hands gliding beneath the lapels of his jacket, stroking his pecs through his shirt.

Elio lifted his head slightly to look at her. “I’m going to have to revise my previous statement. There’s absolutely no way I can dance with you and keep it appropriate.”

He backed that proclamation up by squeezing her ass and drawing her even closer, something she wouldn’t have thought possible. A single piece of paper wouldn’t fit between the two of them.

“I think it’s safe to say we’re a couple thousand miles away from appropriate,” she acknowledged.

“Too much more of this and I won’t be able to let you go. There will be too much physical proof. God, I can’t wait to get you back in my bed.”

This wasn’t the first time he’d talked about the two of them resuming their sexual relationship, but she’d been so certain he would change his mind once she dropped the bomb of her pregnancy on him. Now, the seed he’d planted hadn’t just taken root, it had grown to full height and bloomed.

It occurred to her she probably should have realized she was pregnant way before this week because her hormones had been off the charts. And while there had been plenty of “exhausted” nights after long work hours, she’d had just as many nights where she’d pulled out her toys, closed her eyes, and created a whole array of red-hot Elio fantasies.

She felt the slight bulge in his pants that told her he was speaking the truth. He spun her, clearly seeking a way to put some distance between them before things got too hot and heavy.

As for her, her thoughts were traveling the same path as his. All she could think about was wrapping her legs around his waist and begging him to carry her out of this ballroom. She wondered if he would be up for getting a room in the hotel. Preferably right now.

And if not…

“I know you’ve had a hell of a day, but I was wondering if you would want to stop by my place tonight on your way home. Or if you’re too tired, maybe tomorrow before—”

“Tonight,” he interjected. “I’m going home with you tonight.”

“Okay.”

Elio leaned down until his lips were by her ear. “I’ve had way too much time to think of all the ways I want to take you, Freckles, so I hope you’re well-rested, ready to expand on that wild and wicked concept.”

Gianna’s body clenched with hunger, her eyelids heavy with desire. “God, please.”

Elio stared at her, and she saw the desire she felt reflected in his eyes. “Gianna, if you keep looking at me like that, I’m going to drag you out of here before they cut the damn cake.”

“I wouldn’t complain,” she assured him.

He bent his head to give her a kiss that was too short for her taste, but given they were surrounded by family and friends who had no clue their status quo had changed, she understood his attempts at restraint, though they were weak at best.

“I didn’t tell anyone about us at all,” she told him. “None of my friends. They all think I was at the cabin alone.”

“Yeah, I figured as much. Otherwise, my sister would have been blowing up my phone. Why didn’t you tell anyone?” he asked, curious.

She shrugged. “I wasn’t sure you wanted me to. And, the truth is, it felt like our own special secret. I didn’t want to share it.”

“I understand that. I felt the same, though I did talk to an old teammate, Alex, about it.”

“Why him?”

Elio gave her a charming, self-deprecating grin. “I needed advice in the romance department, a place where I have zero experience. Alex is my only married friend.”

She giggled. “Given everything you’ve said and done so far tonight, I’d say he’s an excellent counselor.”

“He is.”

“You know, I picked up my phone about a million times a day to text or call you, wanting to just talk to you about anything, everything, nothing,” she confessed.

“Why didn’t you?” he asked.

“I didn’t know if you’d…we didn’t exactly leave things in a place where…”

“Gianna,” he said.
