Elio took no offense. “I have no intention of fucking anything up.”

Liza bounced back up from her chair. “Good. Now let’s dance until we drop.”

An hour later, Gianna was perilously close to that dropping point.

“You ready to leave?” Elio asked.

She nodded as they returned to the table. They said their goodbyes, retrieved their coats, then walked to the foyer of the grand hotel.

“Did you drive?” he asked.

She shook her head. “Rode with Liza.”

“Good,” he said, and she was glad they wouldn’t have to separate for the drive back to her place.

He walked her to his truck, opening the passenger door for her. “You ready?”

She nodded slowly.

“Yeah,” she said softly. “I’m ready.”

He stole a quick kiss.

She was so ready.

Ready for tonight, for what lay ahead.

For the beginning of everything.

Chapter Twenty

Elio released her hand as they walked into her apartment, then he helped her out of her coat, hanging hers and his on the hooks by the door. He’d never been to her place, so she took a few minutes, showing him around before they sat down side by side on the couch.

“Do you want something to drink?” she offered.

“No. What I’d really like is a quick make-out session here on the couch, followed by really hot sex in your bedroom. Thoughts?”

She tapped her chin with her finger, pretending to consider his suggestion. “I don’t know. I am pretty worn out from all that dancing.”

Elio narrowed his eyes. “Freckles?”

“Hmm?”

“Find your second wind.” That was all he said before he tugged her into his arms and kissed her.

Gianna found her second wind. And her third, fourth, eighth.

Elio’s lips left no part of her face or neck or ears unworshipped, murmuring in her ear, “I missed you so fucking much.”

Gianna’s hands tangled in his hair, her lips doing a fair amount of exploring as well. She loosened the knot of his tie, then drew it out of the collar with a quick flick of a hand before tossing it over her shoulder dramatically.

Then she went to work on the buttons of his shirt. She’d only tackled the top three before Elio laid claim to her lips once more. He hadn’t been kidding about the making out. It felt as if he couldn’t go a full sixty seconds without kissing her.

“Are you moving into the caretaker’s cottage behind the inn?” he asked the next time they parted.

She nodded. “It should be ready in a few more weeks. Gio has been so sweet, letting me pick out the paint colors and the new cabinets for the kitchen.”

“When the season is over, I’m moving in with you.”
