“Something wrong?” I ask.

He marches over to me and swoops me into his arms without saying a word. The scowl on his face should convince me to hold my questions, but I’ve never been afraid of Valentino.

“What bug bit you on the ass today?”

Behind me, Tácito follows, his expression more curious than alarmed.

I poke Valentino in the chest but he ignores me. It isn’t until we cross the threshold into his room that I understand what has gotten under his skin. “Are your really throwing a tantrum because I was in my room?”

“This is your room. You want to lie in bed, this is your bed. Don’t make me say it twice.” Valentino sits me on the mattress, and I fold my arms and look away from him.

Tácito saunters into the room, his lanky body showing he has no issue with Valentino’s methods.

“I can’t believe you. I haven’t seen you all day and the first thing you do is act like a goddamn caveman. You didn’t even say hello.” I make to stand up, but Valentino pushes me back on the bed.

“I’ve admitted to you before I am very close to my caveman ancestors.” Valentino stands to his full height and glances at Tácito. “You knew better. Why would you indulge her little fantasy?”

Tácito leans against the closet and crosses his ankles. “She led me to the room and asked me to watch TV with her. You know I aim to spoil her whenever I get the chance.”

“Useless, the lot of you.”

“Hey, now. You’re being overly dramatic. There is no reason for you to react this way.” I push Valentino back enough to stand.

“I went searching for you and I couldn’t find you,” he grits, as if the confession is being ripped from his soul.

“You couldn’t find me? Did you think I ran?” I ask, unable to mask my incredulity.

The hairs in his beard bristle as Valentino looks away from me and Tácito.

“Hermano de mi corazón, you know I would have—”

Valentino slashes his hand in the air, interrupting Tácito. His nostrils quiver with suppressed emotion.

I reach out and lay a gentle hand on his arm. “I don’t know why your first thought was I’d run after I promised I wouldn’t, but I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”

After a few deep breaths, Valentino nods, his calm demeanor restored.

My heart twinges at this confirmation. I should be angry that he doesn’t trust me, but I understand that underneath his reaction lies a world of hurt. Being gone more years than I’ve lived close by hasn’t helped. I decide to reach out to hug him, to reassure him, but—

“I still require appeasement.” One by one he captures my and Tácito’s gaze.

“Appeasement?” I whisper in disbelief.

Tácito straightens from his position, wariness sharpening his features.

While I and Tácito stare after him, Valentino retrieves a chair and settles it before the bed. “Yes, appeasement. Something to prove to me that you know which room belongs to you.”

“And how do I go about doing that?” I tentatively ask.

He stares me down with a steely look. “Get naked and ride Tácito’s face.”

My mouth drops open in shock. I can’t glance at Tácito as heat flushes through my body from the thought of him between my thighs. I want him there, but… “You know he’s saving himself for the wedding—”

“And his dick will not know your depths until then. Will you deny him a taste? Hasn’t he been good to you? Spoiled you?” Valentino taunts me with a sardonic tilt to his lips.

“The way you say it, it sounds like a punishment, not pleasure.”

An evil smile widens his mouth as he sits in the chair. “It can be both.”
