“Fine, but I want to know what upset you this afternoon.”

Dropping his arms, he steps off the bed and gathers his clothes. His jaw is locked and he looks irritated.

“Grayson, what’s wrong?”

He raises his jeans over his hips, then zips them. “I came to see you to forget about today, not to be badgered about it.”

Ouch! “Ok, sorry I asked. I was worried about you.” Feeling upset, I gather my own clothes and head out of the room toward my bathroom.

“Emma.” His voice stills my footsteps.

I turn to look at him, holding my clothes to my chest, covering myself. “Grayson?”

“You’re mad?”

“Yes. You’ve been acting like a dick all afternoon.”

Pulling the sweater over his body, he frowns. “Then why’d you let me fuck you?”

I’m taken aback by the brashness. “Because.”

“Why?”

“Because I have feelings for you and I wanted to be with you!”

“You shouldn’t have feelings for me.”

I switch my footing as irritation builds in my chest. “Ok, I’m not having this conversation while standing here naked. I’m getting dressed, putting food in my belly and then afterward you can rattle off insanity.”

His lips curve into a humored smile. “All right, get dressed. I’ll get the food ready.”

When I come out of my bathroom, Grayson has the plates filled and placed at my small, round dining table.

As I approach, he grabs me and pulls me into his arms. His eyes soften as he stares down at me. “I’m sorry I acted like a dick today. My father and I don’t always see eye to eye on things and he knows what buttons to push to upset me. He can be a real asshole when he wants something his way.”

The fact that Grayson is opening up to me brings me an immense amount of relief and joy. I wrap my arms around his neck, running my fingers through his hair. Closing his eyes for a moment, he gives into the sensation. Tilting his head, he kisses my arm, then opens his eyes and looks at me with affection in his eyes.

“What did your father say to upset you?”

His hand raises and brushes my hair away from my face before caressing my cheek. I lean into his warm touch. “It’s not something I want to discuss. I’d rather enjoy this night with you.”

“I understand and I mean that when I say it. My own mother and I are prone to arguments particularly about my job, marriage, and when I’m going to have children. She wants grandchildren so bad, she gave Derrick and me an ovulation kit last Christmas. That did not go over well. Now that I think back on it, I can see how bad that was for our relationship.”

Grayson chuckles. “That’s a little crazy. You know that, right?”

I laugh. “Yes. I love her, but she is crazy.”

His brows pinch inward in thought. “You know it’s twice now you’ve brought up your ex when we’re together?”

My eyes widen. He’s right, I have. “I’m sorry. Does it bother you?”

“Yes. I don’t like imagining any other man being with you.”

His words enchant me. A smile swells my cheeks. “It makes you jealous?”

“Not jealous. I don’t want any other man to touch you like I do.”

“Feeling possessive of me?”
