Her cheeks reddened at his words, a knowing glint in her eye. “Go all”—she waved her arm around in the air—“Mafia man.”

He ambled one slow step toward her, his head tilted to her side, and all I wanted to do was turn around and walk away, feeling like I was intruding on a private moment. But I couldn’t look away, I couldn’t stop watching.

“You saying you don’t like it when I get like that?” She blinked, caught in his trap. “’Cause, I’m gonna say you do like it. You like it a lot.”

He waited for her to say something—anything—just like I did. But when all that followed was silence, I couldn’t help but grin.

He’d won that little spat with her.

Until…

“Fuck you, Rafael. You have no idea who that was and what he wanted. Just…just leave me the hell alone.” She slammed the door shut, a thud following, no doubt her body sliding against the door.

“Peyton?” I called. “Peyton, are you okay?”

I remembered a time when she’d asked me the same thing. When she hadn’t rested until she knew I was okay.

“I’m fine, Bay,” her muffled voice answered. “Just go back to the party.” She was supposed to join us with her boys, but I knew after that spat, there was no way she’d be coming now.

Indecision waged a war inside my brain. I wanted to see if my friend—the only one I had—was okay, but…it was Romeo’s birthday and I wanted to give him his present.

“Bailey?” My stomach burst with butterflies athisvoice. “What are you doing out here?”

“I…” I bit down on my bottom lip as I spun around, holding the small present in the air. “I was getting your present but then someone was at Peyton’s door.” He raised his brow, much in the same way that Raf had with Peyton. “And I…I followed Raf to find out who it was.”

He strode toward me, each step precise, until he was right in front of me. “Well?” he asked, wrapping one arm around my waist and pulling me against him. “Who was it?”

My breath caught in my throat as he lifted his finger, trailing it over my bottom lip, then pulling down on it. “I…” He was making me lose all of my senses, just like he always did when he touched me. “I…”

His smirk flashed at me, knowing exactly what he was doing. “You what, angel?”

I shook my head, tapping him on the chest. “You distracted me on purpose.” I pursed my lips at him. “You’re naughty,” I whispered.

“Just the way you like me,” he responded, cutting off anything else that I was going to say with a kiss.

A kiss that told me he wanted me.

A kiss that told me he loved me.

A kiss that told me I was his.

But more importantly, it was a kiss that told me he was mine too.

We belonged to each other; our souls intertwined until the end of days.

His darkness giving way to my light, blending together and making the perfect mix ofus.
