Eli nods his agreement beside me. “It’s our right to throw you a kick-ass party.”

“Yeah,” I concede, continuing. “We gotta! You’re about to be stuck with my sister’s vagina for the rest of your life.”

A cold, hard flint flashes in Cole’s eyes, and I scoff in response. Everyone knows he’d never even think about straying from her magic pussy. It’s an expression. Isn’t it? It should be if it’s not.

“Stop being a bitch.”

“We don’t have to tell the girls,” Eli adds. “A secret between us hellhounds.”

Cole shoots us both the most unflattering “duh” expression as he shoves himself from his seat. The one used to demoralize even the brightest and most intelligent of humans. “ThatincludesRory, you morons.”

Plural, he means both of us. I shrug it off.

For my own selfish wants, I could use the distraction. My head is a cannon and is only one short fuse away from readying itself to go off. Especially after the unexpected lunch Hailey and I shared yesterday. My confusion about it all, the buying her the extra salsa? Making sure she ate? Using her fucking nickname, Jesus—

I’m wound taut. My muscles have been so strained that not even a good game of basketball out back with Eli and Cole relaxed me.

“Come on,” I beg.

“Aren’t the girls busy tonight anyway? Didn’t Finn let in the wedding coordinator earlier?” Eli asks Cole.

I’m nodding like my head’s a spring that’s just been recoiled after being held too tight. I did do that.

My grin is as wide as my wingspan. “Great! You’re free.”

“That’s not the point,” Cole says snidely, appearing entirely too bored with this conversation. To be fair, I haven’t dropped it for hours now.

I really, really, really need this.

I could use a moment to be able to catch my breath without the chance of running into her. Being around Hailey this much is confusing. It’s messing with me more than it should.

Huffing, my cheeks hollow out. “Well, excuse us for wanting to do somethingnicefor our friend.” The word nice comes off as cold and solid as a block of ice.

“Know what I want? Since neither of you has cared to ask?” Cole’s tone is full of spite, answering his own question before we can request it. “I want to work out, give my fiancé a nice fuck or two, and then pass the fuck out naked and satisfied.”

My nose upturns at the last two. Gross.

“Fine, be a waste of oxygen then,” I holler at his retreating form.

Cole only tosses back a halfhearted hand over his shoulder while I cross mine and jut out my hip.

“Are we really not going to do anything?”

My jaw works from side to side at Eli’s comment. “Oh, we’re definitely doing something.” Determination oozes from my every pore.

My eyes glint at the emptiness of the hallway that carried Cole’s form away from this discussion and toward the gym.

“Your expression has ‘Finn catastrophe’ written all over it,” Eli remarks. “I love it.”

He’s right. No one would expect anything less from me, and besides, people may be too chickenshit to admit it, but I throw the best parties. Everyone knows it.

Legendary is how they’d been described back in high school.

A ghost of a smile settles across the rim of my mouth. This bachelor party is about to be so on.
