Rory shakes her head from side to side. “The garage is the only thing in the direction they were heading.”

“So, we’re tailing them?” Already knowing where her mind has gone.

Shadows dance along the stunning features of her face, making her almost appear ghoulish as we continue to trek our way throughout the house.

I swallow thickly as she picks up her pace.

What are you up to, hellhounds?

Rory dims the lights on her jeep, trailing farther behind after realizing where they’re headed.

The gravel crunches under the weight of her tires as we come to a stop outside the wooded home of Cole’s family’s lake house.

I’d been here a time or two for parties, but back then, we’d ever only been allowed to park in an empty field in the opposite way.

Familiar with the drive’s slope, Rory has no problem guiding us up to the front of the house, which would take anyone’s breath away.

Jumping out, we crouch past several of the oversized windows along the front and reach the far side of the home.

Safer and sure we won’t be seen from this vantage point, our fingers grip the windowsill, peeking through this new set of windows.

An entire row of shot glasses lines the table in the center of the living room. Eli reaches for one, shooting it back before Finn slaps an oversized sticker with the words “wingman” to his shirt. He slaps a similar one to his own, only his says “bad influence.”

Cole has the excitement of a sloth wearing the sash Finn forced him into. The printed words across the front read, “one clit and that’s it.” I wouldn’t say it was the best choice in bachelor party attire, but that’s only me.

“I thought you were having a joint party?” I question, giving Rory my face.

Her lips flatten to a line. “I thought so too.”

I’m tracking the boys’ movements inside again when I hear a “come on” from Rory. It’s then shortly followed with, “I think I remember where the breaker box is.”

Her posture is slick with vengeance and my smile curls toward my cheekbones. Payback is about to be so, so sweet.

Lifting,Icarryafresh tray of shots back to the table.

Eli’s already had three, and me one more than that, so it’s time for the main dude of the evening to play catch-up.

“Come on, Cole, live a little,” I encourage, shooting another back because isn’t that what they always say? Lead by example.

My grin turns sloppy when the frown lines that are his mouth open and he swallows one back. Thatta boy.

The music’s at a decent level, so I’m surprised when I hear the sound of a knock. Hissing down another drink, I slam the empty glass on the wood and move toward the front door.

I never paid for a stripper, but maybe Eli charged one to his credit card on the drive up. My fingers cross. The cheeky dog.

A wave of disappointment settles across my shoulders. Nothing. Shrugging it off, I close the door back up and chalk it up to the wind. We may not have a stripper, but I’m not going to let it ruin this makeshift bachelor party.

Gripping the armrests, I grin between my two friends and kick up my feet to the table. “So, what’s on the agenda first?” I rub my palms together. “I booked us here for the whole night.”

Cole’s chin juts forward. “What do you mean? This is my house. You didn’t do shit other than borderline breaking and entering.”

I rotate my wrist casually. “How is it breaking in if I have the owner with me? Hmmm?”

My blood’s starting to warm, and my muscles feel looser than they have in weeks. The alcohol’s starting to do its job.
