He must have fallen asleep as the next thing he knew, he was being shaken.

“Ashok? Are you ill? You look terrible.” He felt a hand on his forehead, and he struggled to open his eyes.

“Yeah,” he croaked. “I’m OK. A bit tired is all.”

“Can I get you anything, or do you want to sleep more?” Hayden sat next to him on the bed. “You feel warm. Are you sure you’re alright?”

He had to admit he wasn’t feeling too good, but that could have had something to do with the fact he’d eaten very little today. Come to think of it, he couldn’t remember drinking anything either.

“I just need some water. I’ll go get it.” He struggled to sit up, feeling weak.

“No, you won’t. Stay there.” Ashok fell back onto the bed and closed his eyes, his world spinning.

“Here, sit up and drink this.” Hayden helped him sit and placed the cool glass to his lips, encouraging him to drink. “You look pale. Are you sure everything’s all right?”

Should he tell him? As of now, he was the only person he felt reassured by. They might not be boyfriends, but he realised now, they were friends.

“I called my mum today.” He collapsed back on the pillows, feeling the tears welling behind his closed eyelids.

“Is she OK?” Hayden took his hand and held it gently.

“She wants me to talk to my father. I told her no, I couldn’t do that. I thought she’d left him, Hayden, but she’s still there. She says he’s changed but…”

“Abusers don’t stop abusing, Ashok, no matter what they say. Move over.” Ashok was too tired to argue and backed up to the wall so Hayden could get onto the bed. Hayden lifted his arm, and Ashok went to him willingly, snuggling into his side. He inhaled deeply, smelling coffee and the cologne Hayden always wore. It gave him comfort; he just hadn’t realised how much.

“Do you want to tell me about it?”

“There’s not much to tell. I called her because I missed her. One thing led to another, and before I knew it, she was saying he wanted to talk to me, that she’d not moved away at all. I think he’s still beating her, although I don’t know for sure.”

“Does he know where you are?” Ashok could hear the worry in Hayden’s voice.

“Not as far as I know, unless she tells him. I pray she won’t. I don’t want to have to move and start all over again, Hayden. She said I was his son, that he was my father, as if that mattered. It certainly didn’t when he’d beat seven bells out of me.”

“I thought she was on your side? She was the one that encouraged you to move away, wasn’t she?”

Ashok nodded. “Yeah and now I don’t know what to do.”

Hayden kissed the top of his head, and he sighed. He’d missed this, lying with Hayden, feeling his firm body beneath his head. When he’d shared his bed, he’d wake every morning lying on his chest as if he belonged there. Would it be so wrong to want that again?

He didn’t think so and realised just how much he’d missed Hayden. Oh, he’d been around, but he’d missed the closeness they’d shared.

“We’ll figure something out. I won’t let you go through this alone, Ash.” Hayden sounded sincere, and Ashok knew he’d stick by him.

“What time is it?” If Hayden was home, it was likely late.

“It’s six thirty. Why? Are you hungry? I could cook, or we could go out? We’ve not done that in a while.”

“I’ll need to shower, but going out would be nice.” They’d visited a few places, but there was so much more to see in the city.

“You go do that, and I’ll find us a nice restaurant to go to. I’ve got a few ideas.”

Hayden climbed off the bed, leaving Ashok alone with his thoughts. He’d moved away to live his life as he wanted to, on his terms. It was time to start doing that.

He showered quickly, tying up his hair. He knew Hayden liked it down, but it was still wet, and it was more practical this way. Sorting through his clothes, he found a gorgeous black jockstrap he’d forgotten he’d even bought. He slipped it on, the soft fabric clinging to his skin and fitting snugly around his cock.

This was why he loved wearing it, that and silk. He loved to touch himself when he wore it. It made him feel confident and sexy, and he hoped that tonight, it would give him the courage to take another step with Hayden.

He made it downstairs in record time. He’d chosen a pair of slim-fitting black trousers and a pale-grey button-up shirt, wanting to make an effort.
