Page 25 of Where You Should Be

Nigga made it sound like I was in school or something. I rolled my eyes and made my way upstairs. I didn’t want to publicly be insubordinate and lose my job, but I wasn’t going to stay up there but for a minute. When I walked through the door, he had a frown on his face. “Did I do something to you?”

I wanted to turn around and walk out, but instead, I answered his question. “You’re smothering me. If I say I’m busy, then I will call you back when I’m not. However, you blowing my phone up only irritates me. So guess what? Even when I’m not busy, I don’t want to talk to you. Is that all?”

“I want to take you out Saturday. Is that feasible?”

“I’ll let you know. I have to go.”

I turned to walk out, only to feel his presence right behind me. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into his erection. It was like I had been tased. I jerked away from him and turned to see his frown. “So what happened Thursday was just you paying me back for being generous with my money?”

“Wasn’t that the deal?”

“I told you that it no longer was.”

“And I never said I was accepting the new deal.”

I jerked away from him and could see his lip twitch. Something wasn’t right with his ass, and I just hoped I didn’t get myself in even more bullshit. This time, he allowed me to leave. I got out of there so fast I made myself dizzy. Eyes were on me when I left, and I knew people were speculating about what they probably saw.

I didn’t waste time getting away from there. I had an hour to get home, get cleaned up, and make my way to Jungle. My hair looked a mess, but I didn’t care. I’d gone into the money Jericho had given us to pay to get it done. It was so tiring and time consuming trying to do it myself. I was really contemplating cutting it to make it easier to manage.

When I got home, I blew in and blew out, barely taking time to talk to Manman. She knew exactly where I was going, so I knew she wouldn’t have a thing to say about it. We’d talked about how I would pop up on Jungle today, and she’d encouraged it. The closer I got to his house, the more nervous I got.

After turning in the driveway and seeing the gate open, I smiled. Vegas was looking out for me big time. I’d packed an overnight bag in case things went well, but I left it in the car as I got out with my purse. I decided to wear one of his button-down shirts that I’d taken from his house as a dress with a loose belt around my waist and some heels.

When I got to the back door, I knocked as my knees did the same with nervousness. I didn’t understand why I was so nervous. Despite how angry he probably was, I couldn’t see him turning me away. Above all, we were friends. When the door opened and Jungle stood there shirtless with a Kangol hat on, I literally stopped breathing. He was so fucking sexy.Jesus Christ.

I drank him in from his dark eyes and thick ass lips, down his defined chest and abs that adorned a little hair, to the pants that hung off his ass. He stepped aside and allowed me inside without saying a word. He seemed to be taking me in as well. When I stepped inside, I heard Jill Scott playing, and there were flowers everywhere. I quickly spun back around to him, my eyes wide, and ran to his arms.

He was expecting me. “Vegas told you I was coming.”

“I sent him to the store to get flowers that I could pull the petals off of. I was planning to call you after your shift. When he told me what you said, I called my chef to get dinner prepared. I miss you, Chelsea, and I’m glad you’re here.”

I stared up at him, and he kissed my lips. Although it was only a peck like he normally gave me, it felt passionate. I brought my hand to his cheek and stared at him. “How are you?”

“I’m good.”

I stared at him until he looked away. I turned his face back to mine, and he said, “That shit was hard because she was trying to get at me for her cousin being killed. He was the one responsible for taking out my family and raping my sister. I wanted to kill her, but she’s Rondo’s baby mother. That shit was hard on Fawn, and I needed to be a comfort to her all Saturday night until she left Sunday morning, then I had to go to Beaumont.”

I kissed him again. “I needed to be here for you. I’m glad you and Fawn had each other though.”

He backed away a bit and scanned me from head to toe again while licking his lips. “My shirt looks good on you, baby.”

“Thank you,” I said as I twirled. “I thought so too.”

I giggled, but he never cracked a smile. Something was different, and I knew what it was. He was giving in to what this was between us. He’d bought flowers for me before and had dinner cooked. That wasn’t anything new. The way he openly caressed my curves with his eyes was definitely new though. He grabbed my hand, leading me to the front room where different color rose petals were all over the floor.

“Jungle, this is beautiful. Wow.”

He gave me a slight smile as he sat on the couch, pulling me down with him. I sat next to him as he held my hand in his. “How serious are you about your boss?”

My eyebrows lifted slightly. “Do you know him?”

“Naw. Just from seeing him in the grocery store.”

“I’m not serious about him at all. There’s only one man I want to be serious about, but I digress. I’m sorry. I just had to say—”

Jungle’s lips landed on mine, and I was so caught off guard I could barely kiss him back. His tongue slid to mine, and I swore I erupted in my panties. My hands went to the back of his head, holding him to me as we kissed. It was everything I thought it would be. He was the only man I had kissed this way in years, and I was glad that I hadn’t really kissed Van like this.

When he gripped my ass, I pulled away. I was confused. This was something I’d been wanting for the past few months, but I didn’t like how it was about to go down. I cleared my throat and sat back on the couch.
