I pulled her on top of me like I did the first day she stayed at my house and gently stroked her back, doing my best to calm her spirit. “Chelsea?”

“Yeah?”

“Don’t regret giving yourself to me. I don’t regret a thing.”

“I love you, Jungle. I knew you were the one, but I never thought it was to this magnitude. Damn. What did I do to deserve you?”

“I ask myself that question concerning you all the time. I’m not a good person, but you bring out the good in me. Besides my family, no one has been able to do that. So what did I do to deserve a beautiful, loving angel like you? I’ve never known a demon to be given a second chance. They are always cast out. But here I am, defying the odds.”

“You aren’t a demon. Your heart is a beautiful thing, Milton. I’m just glad that you chose to show it to me.”

I couldn’t stop the tear that fell from my eye to the pillow. I was so unworthy, but I was blessed with the best He had to offer. I knew we had some shit to overcome, but the point was that we’d be doing that shit together.

CHAPTER12

CHELSEA

Iwas so embarrassed last night. Sex was explosive with Jungle until that moment. He’d made me see the beauty in it. My last encounter with Jules, he’d thrown me against the wall and choked the shit out of me. Being against that wall triggered the hell out of me. It was my fault, though, because he was trying to be tender with me. I pushed him to do more.

He’d held me for at least an hour, then we got up and took a shower together. The way he catered to my body in that shower had me crying all over again. We’d gone downstairs to eat, then he informed me that he would be taking Manman and me to Beaumont with him after my appointments. My car would stay at his house.

He’d given me money to pay for my hair and nails and said that he would buy me something to wear when we got to Beaumont. Although I tried to decline his offer, he told me to dead that shit. If he was my man, then it was his job to provide for me. I’d rolled my eyes, and it initiated another tickling session.

I didn’t think this day would ever come. I was so damn happy, and I couldn’t wait to be with him around everyone. As long as I had Jungle with me, I didn’t feel intimidated by anything Seneca or Kaysyn did. He’d told me that Seneca and Jericho had words at his house Saturday. I wouldn’t talk about it to Jericho unless he brought it up, but Jungle said it was intense.

I appreciated my brother for always having my back. He continued to stick his neck out for me, and I couldn’t be more grateful for his love. I could see now that Jungle would be just as ruthless when it came to protecting and defending me, so Seneca had better watch his back.

Manman was so happy to be going to Beaumont. She and Mrs. Anissa had gotten along well. When I didn’t come home last night, she’d texted me saying how happy she was to have another son. When we’d gotten to the apartment to pick her up and for me to pack a few more things, she’d called Jungle pitit gason, which meant son. When I’d told him what it meant, he’d hugged her tightly and picked her up. I loved their relationship. He’d been calling her Manman since she’d gotten here.

We were about twenty minutes from Beaumont when Jungle’s phone started ringing. As nosy as I was, I was all in his shit. He glanced at me and said, “It’s your brother.”

I gave him a slight smile as he answered the phone through his Bluetooth. “What’s up, bruh?”

“Take me off Bluetooth.”

Jungle glanced at me then did what Jericho said. “A’ight. What’s up?”

I carefully watched Jungle’s face to see if I could make out whether what Jericho had to say was good or bad. Glancing back at Manman, I could see she had the same look of worry on her face. We met eyes, and she gave me a slight smile. My attention was brought back to Jungle when he said, “I’m glad that shit was taken care of. We should be there in thirty minutes though… A’ight.”

He turned to me then looked in the rearview at Manman and said, “Jericho said y’all can stay at his house… Well, you can, Manman. Chelsea and I have to find somewhere else to stay,” he said then slowly shook his head.”

“Okay,” Manman replied.

“The other stuff he said had nothing to do with y’all. It was Watchful Eyes business.”

I nodded as he grabbed my hand. When he smiled at me, I couldn’t help but smile back. I loved Jungle’s smile. It was so big. It was how I could tell he was truly happy. He didn’t smile as much as Jericho’s friend Ali, but when he did, it made me stop in my tracks to just stare at it. “Stop looking at me like that, man.”

“Why? I love your smile.”

He looked over at me and tapped my nose with his finger. “I love yours too. I can see your heart in it.”

He always said some of the sweetest shit. One wouldn’t believe that this man had a body count. When my phone rang, I pulled it from my purse to see it was Van. I rolled my eyes as I silenced it. “Naw. Answer that shit and put that nigga on game.”

I took a deep breath and answered. “Hello?”

“You took off today?”

“Yes. My brother is getting married tomorrow.”
