“Well hurry up then. We hungry, and we need to see our girl since we didn’t get to see her over the weekend.”

Fawn and Amiko were already on my last nerve. A nigga couldn’t even smoke a blunt in peace. Vegas knew we loved Chinese, so he headed out as I went a few miles up the road to get my baby.

As I lay in bed, staring at Chelsea, I couldn’t help but admire her strength. Everything she had been through had done its best to crush her, but she survived. When I brought her back to the house, she had a great time clowning with Fawn and Amiko. Chelsea kept those two out of our business. Law nor Smoke were in the business anymore, but they were both willing to dip back in to make sure Fawn was safe.

Ali and Chad would be out here starting Monday afternoon to follow Darlena and Van. I still needed to talk to Chelsea about quitting her job to assure her safety and to get her away from that nigga. I didn’t know when we would do anything about Kennedy yet. She was a touchy subject being that she was connected to Rondo. I felt like that ho knew all this shit. She knew I wouldn’t kill her ass because of him.

I had no issue with killing a woman. If I needed to get rid of her ass, because she was threatening my existence or anyone in my family then that ho had to go. Kennedy should have been gone since that day. There was no way she should have walked away from that with her life.Stupid ho.By her living so far away, that kept her ass off my radar. I should have known better. She was too fine for words and that shit had clouded my judgment.

I kissed Chelsea’s cheek then her ear. It was only four in the morning, but I couldn’t sleep. When I kissed her again, her eyes fluttered open, and she turned to me. “Why are you still awake, baby?”

“Because I need to talk to you, and it’s keeping me from sleeping.”

She frowned slightly and adjusted the sheet over her breasts as she turned to me. “What do you need to talk to me about? What’s going on?”

“With the shit that’s going on with Van, I would prefer that you quit that job. I don’t trust him, especially being that he’s related to Roulette.”

She looked away for a moment. “How will I get things I need, Jungle? I don’t want to depend on you to take care of me.”

“Why not? I love you. One day you gon’ be my wife. Real shit. It’s gon’ be my job to take care of you. Chelsea, I ain’t hurting for money. Although I don’t floss and shit, a nigga loaded. You’re mine, so why wouldn’t you benefit from that? You the woman I’ve been needing for the longest time. Depend on me… please.”

I gently stroked her cheek, hoping that she chose to leave the trauma of what Jules did to her in her past and trust that I would love and cherish her for the rest of my life and set shit up to where she would even feel it once I was dead and gone. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, exhaling slowly. I knew trauma could be a beast, and that she was doing her best to not let it define her future.

“Okay. Did you find out something new?”

I pulled her to me and kissed her lips. “No. I just don’t want to put you in the line of fire. He knows we’re connected, and he could very well try to get at you to get at me.” I looked away for a moment and that seemed to put her on high alert. I could feel her trembling. “I would like for you and Manman to come stay with me. If he picked you up for the wedding, then he knows where you live.”

Again, she closed her eyes as she slowly shook her head. “I fucked up, huh?”

“No. You didn’t. This has nothing to do with anything you did. I’m the one that fucked up. He’s not after you. He’s after me, because of shit that happened in the past. He didn’t use you to get to me, but I don’t want him to start trying to do that. Chelsea, I just wanna protect you and Manman, baby. It would fuck me up if something happened to either one of y’all. Please let me do that.”

She stared at me for a moment then pushed me to my back and straddled me. I was hoping this meant she would be moving. Even with what we had just discussed, my dick rose to the occasion. Chelsea immediately lifted her hips and slid down my shit, making me bite my bottom lip. I was already feeling sensitive, and this shit wasn’t making it any better.

“Chelsea wants to say hell yeah, but Jenetta is telling me not to give you that much power. I love you, Jungle… with my soul. Please assure me that I have nothing to worry about.”

“Jenetta, you’re the best thing that has ever happened to me. My life has been filled with hardships, grief, and disappointments. You are the rose that grew from concrete, baby. I could never hurt the woman that makes me better… that has filled my heart with joy unspeakable. You invoked change in me for the better. I promise your heart is safe with me. What good is being a king without having a queen? I can boss niggas around, run shit, and have Houston at my fingertips, but none of that shit means anything without you.”

Her head dropped back, and she moaned as she slowly rode my dick, taking it specifically for her pleasure. When she closed her eyes, I was hoping she wasn’t retreating. I needed her in this moment with me. I slid my hands up her legs as she moaned. “You have me, Jungle. You have me, king.”

“Mm, fuck. I plan to show and prove, baby. You won’t regret your decision. I promise.”

“I better not. I’ll kill yo’ ass.”

“I hear you, queen. But right now, I need you to kill this dick.”

CHAPTER18

CHELSEA

As we walked in the courtroom, my nerves picked up even more than they already were. Jungle was holding my hand, and Manman, Whitney, and Jericho were walking behind us. The attorney Jungle hired was on the other side of me, and he looked like he was ready for war. I didn’t know what all he’d found in support of my story, but he seemed extremely confident. During our talk, he didn’t give me details of what he’d be presenting, but he did assure me that I had nothing to worry about.

Seneca, Kaysyn, and her parents were already seated with their attorney, waiting for us to arrive. Kaysyn looked nervous as hell, but I didn’t give them the satisfaction of knowing just how nervous I was. My face was like stone, and I could clearly see the frowns on Jungle and Jericho’s faces. I was wondering if anyone from the Berotte family would show up, but I could imagine that they would want to stay neutral.

When I heard the door open, I turned to see Ali, Shy, and Chad walk in. That wasn’t a Berotte presence. That was a Watchful Eyes presence. Since Seneca and Jericho were both employees, I supposed they were still able to be neutral.

Not long after we sat, the attorney turned to me. “You have nothing to worry about. I told you that I would do a good job for you and defend you to the best of my abilities. They don’t have a leg to stand on. Everything they’ve submitted is speculation, not proven fact. This won’t go to trial.”
