He’d changed when he met Kaysyn and wasn’t just toxic for the hell of it, but when he was afraid or threatened, that shit still held true. He’d stabbed Jericho in the back by doing this shit. He’d also betrayed Kaysyn by telling us that it was all on her when it was apparent by her outburst that she was trusting his advice and whatever he told her.

“I think she will love you, C-Mar. She knows she was adopted. She already knows Jericho, and she’s familiar with me too. We will do everything to make sure she’s comfortable,” I said.

“Whitney and I will come stay out there for a lil bit once she gets there,” Jericho added.

Chelsea nodded, but I could tell she’d retreated to her thoughts of inadequacy and her insecurities. This was something that she’d always wanted, but now that it was happening, she was scared. When we got to Jericho’s house, Isaiah was there waiting for us. I was sure Shy had shared the ruling with him.

He gave Chelsea a soft smile as she got out of the vehicle. After I closed the door, we walked toward the front door where he was waiting. He opened his arms and said, “Congratulations.”

Her lip turned up, and she started crying all over again as she made her way to his arms. I was surprised to see him here. Seneca was his brother-in-law. However, I also knew that he didn’t agree with them taking Chelsea to court.

After we all walked inside, Isaiah said aloud in front of everyone, “I’m happy for you. Honestly, I don’t think any of us agreed with what they did. It was hard as hell to stay neutral. Joyy is so conflicted.”

“I understand. I really appreciate you, Isaiah. You’ve been so supportive… all of you have in your own way,” Chelsea said as Whitney made her way to the kitchen to start cooking.

As they continued to talk, my phone chimed with a text message. When I checked it, I saw a message from Ali.The police were at your house.

I frowned then immediately thought about the shit with Van. I was more than sure they were coming to question me about something. While I didn’t think they had evidence of any wrongdoing, I didn’t need them traipsing around my property either. After sliding my hand down my face, I got another text from Law.

Van is working with a nigga they call Judge. You know him?

I had met that nigga once and seen him in passing a couple of times. I didn’t think this was his arena though.I wouldn’t say I know him, but I know who he is. You have info? I can get it to my boy.

After he sent me the info, I forwarded it to my burner then to Ali. I was ready for this shit to be over. Ali texted right back.Already looked into his ass. He’s a lightweight. If you want, I can take both of those muthafuckas out tonight.

Hold off on the one we know, but you can hit the newbie’s ass.

I took a deep breath as Isaiah held his hand out in front of me. I stood and shook his hand. “I’m gon’ head out.”

“Thanks, man. We appreciate you.”

“Always.”

He headed out, and I motioned for Chelsea to join me on the couch. She did, then lay against me. “It’s been a long, stressful day, baby, but it’s been worth it.”

“Absolutely, but it all worked out the way it was supposed to. We need to finish moving your things when we get back.”

“Yes. I’m glad I moved in with you. I’ve always wanted to feel like I was a part of a family, instead of being imprisoned by one. Thank you for everything, Jungle.”

“You don’t have to thank me. I should be thanking you. I love you, C-Mar.”

“I love you too.”

She kissed my lips, and I could only pray some of the bullshit going on in my world would die down.

“The attorney called.Kaysyn is wanting to meet tomorrow.”

“Really? I just knew she would wait until the last day.”

“Me too. That makes me nervous.”

“Where do we need to meet?”

“She’s going to bring her here. I guess she may be going to see her family.”

I nodded. It had only been three days since the judge’s ruling. For Kaysyn to bring her this early, something was definitely up. I wondered if she’d made up with Seneca. I could see the hurt and anger in her eyes when she learned that he’d lied to her. I wondered what all he said about Chelsea. The fact that he brought me into the equation had pissed me off. I flew under the radar as much as possible, and all it took was a nigga to start running his mouth for the police to start snooping.
