Her brows furrowed some as she asked, “Do you know who is?”

I could feel Chelsea’s nerves heighten from where I sat. I looked over at her, and she nodded as if giving me permission to tell her. I refused to tell her that her father was also her uncle and that he’d forced himself on her mother. However, I felt like this explanation would suffice for the time being. “I knew him, but he died not long ago.”

“Aww. So I’ll never get to meet him.”

“It will be okay. You have three dads now.”

“My dad Luckey is still sick, and Mr. Seneca hasn’t been home. I miss him so much. Who’s my other dad?”

I frowned at her and acted offended. “Hol’ up, mane. You saying I can’t be a father figure to you?”

Her eyebrows lifted, and she threw her arms around my neck. This child craved love from a father so badly. She was an entire mess seeing Luckey’s demise, and now Seneca was missing in action. I could only hope that Kaysyn wouldn’t keep him from her whenever Chelsea allowed her to have her over to visit. I knew how much this little girl meant to him. He and Ali had taken that father role seriously and just from this little girl’s hug, I knew I would too.

“So,Van wants to talk to Chelsea, and when we get back, I plan to let her call him.”

“She wanted to call him sooner?” Law asked.

“Naw. She asked me what I wanted her to do. She ain’t like Fawn’s sassy ass. My baby checks with me about damn near everything. I know it has to do with her past abuse and fear, but it doesn’t bother me. I know with time, some of that shit gon’ change. I don’t believe she’s completely comfortable yet.”

“Well, at least she ain’t being reckless and shit.”

“Right,” I said and took a puff of my blunt.

“So we basically in the clear?”

“Yeah. Ali said that was the only muthafucka that he’d talked to, along with Darlena’s ass. I’m tempted to move her into the apartment Manman and Chelsea were in once I get Manman moved just so I can watch her ass. I haven’t talked to Rondo yet either. I know I need to call him to fill him in on everything Vegas found out. I just haven’t found the time this week.”

“Well, that’s understandable. Congratulations though on your retirement from the game.”

“Yeah. Thanks, bruh.”

My phone rang, halting all conversation for the moment. We were heading back to my house. The call was from Ali. “I guess I spoke you up. I’d just mentioned your name to Law.”

“What’s up, Jungle? Law, what’s up, nigga?”

“What it do, Ali?” Law responded.

“So, that nigga is at the police station. He ain’t dropping no shit. He’s recanting, telling them he was mistaken.”

“Smart nigga. Too bad that ain’t gon’ help him one way or the other.”

“Right. So I figure we can probably move in a couple of days from now.”

“Who is we?” I asked.

“Well… mainly me. You know Chad ain’t doing shit unless it’s absolutely necessary.”

“A’ight. Well, I don’t want that other nigga knowing my business until we have a come to Jesus meeting.”

“I can schedule that meeting within the next meeting. You feel me?”

“Yep. Let him know. We talked today, and I told him to just take that whupping like a man, because his disloyal ass deserves worse for that fuck shit he did.”

“I don’t think I’m gon’ tell him. His ass may not show up. He may know it’s coming, but he don’t have to know when.”

“Shiiiid, I’m more than sure when he sees me and J walk through the door, he gon’ know what time it is.”
