Ali chuckled. He knew that Jericho would never miss a Watchful Eyes meeting. So the minute Ali called it, he would know that Jericho would be there. I didn’t always attend the meetings, because I usually had shit going on out here to tend to. Since I shut down the drugs, I almost didn’t know what to do with my fucking self. Had it not been for Chelsea and this bullshit with Van and Kennedy, there was no telling what I would have gotten into by now.

“You talked to Rondo yet?”

“Naw. After this nigga is handled, I probably will. Chelsea and I have to call him tonight. He reached out to her and that’s probably what he wants to tell her… that he recanted, but we’ll see.”

“A’ight, man. Well, I gotta go. I’ll text y’all with the meeting date.”

“Awready.”

I ended the call and drove into the driveway. This shit was so close to being done. I couldn’t wait either. Getting to live life getting to know Chelsea even more as my woman and Jericka as my daughter would give me a different experience, but I was up for the challenge.

CHAPTER22

CHELSEA

Kaysyn was about to leave, and I knew the emotions would overtake the three of us. I always understood Kaysyn’s standpoint, which was why I didn’t want this. Their actions had changed things. However, like she said, maybe things were supposed to happen this way. It revealed some things she and Seneca needed to work on, or according to her, may separate because of.

They seemed so good together until this. They were so affectionate the couple of times I was around them. I supposed looks could be deceiving. She’d said they hadn’t had any major issues since they’d embarked on a relationship and the first weekend she’d agreed to be his. She didn’t go into detail on what that disagreement was about though. So, being that I was willing to allow her to see Jericka basically whenever she wanted, maybe they could work this out.

Had the shoe been on the other foot, I supposed I would be suspect about her too. Me saying I would sign a contract wouldn’t mean I would abide by it. We didn’t know each other. I was grateful that the attorney blew that shit up in the courtroom, or she may have never known the truth. I had no intention of telling her. Nor did I plan to air her dirty laundry, but my petty came full force after that bullshit. Thankfully, it didn’t backfire on us.

When she stood, Jericka looked over at her. The tears were already filling her eyes as well as Kaysyn’s. “Jericka, I have to go, baby. Ell wants to call you sometimes too. So, Chelsea, if it’s okay, can she keep the cell phone?” she asked as she turned to me.

“Of course.”

Jericka ran to her and hugged her tightly. “I love you, Mommy,” she said, then broke down in tears.

Kaysyn could no longer hold back at that point, and neither could I. The tears were freefalling as they held each other. Kaysyn tried to pull away from her, but Jericka wasn’t ready to let go. “Jericka, it’s okay, baby. Go and meet your mom.”

Jericka released her and turned to me, and the tears only fell even more. Her tears evoked so much emotion in me. “I promise I won’t keep you from your mommy. Although you don’t really know me yet, I love you so much. I’ve longed for you all this time.”

I already knew that if she didn’t want to stay after those first two weeks, I would probably let her go. It would kill me inside, but I didn’t want her to suffer. She wrapped her arms around me and hugged me tightly then pulled away and grabbed my hand.

“Have fun getting to know your mom, baby girl. I love you, and I’ll talk to you soon.”

“Okay. I love you too, Mommy.”

With that, Kaysyn turned and walked out of the door without looking back. I knew that was because she didn’t want to make Jericka cry more. I was more than sure she would cry more on her way home. I closed the door and asked, “So, do you want dessert? I have ice cream.”

“Yes, ma’am,” she said politely.

I took a deep breath, doing my best to cheer her up. She didn’t know me, nor did she know Whitney and Manman. However, she knew Jericho and that was where she went to sit… right next to him. “Uncle Jericho, are you staying the night?”

“Yep,” he said and tapped her nose. “And guess who I talked to?”

“Who?”

“Uncle Ali. He said sometimes, Aina can come and play with you here. Mr. Jungle and Uncle Ali are friends too.”

“Yay!”

I smiled at her as Jungle, Vegas, and Jungle’s brother-in-law walked through the door. I could clearly see what Fawn saw in him. Although light skinned men weren’t my preference, this man screamed big dick energy. His green eyes didn’t hurt either. “Hey, Mr. Jungle. Mom is about to fix me some ice cream!”

“Sounds like a good time to me. Babe, you’ll fix me some too?”

“Of course.”

“Oh, and can you pour a Root Beer in it?”
