“I asked about your sleeping arrangements because I wanted you in my bed again. I should’ve just said so,” he told me, slipping his hands in his shorts’ pockets.

“It was nice, wasn’t it?” I asked him softly.

“Blissful torture,” he murmured.

My lips curved upward at the poetic description. “I’d like to share a bed, too. Do you have a house here?”

“I do not. While the others focused on building, I couldn’t bring myself to fly far enough that I couldn’t see you through your window.”

My face warmed. “Well, we can figure something out.”

I wrapped my hand around his bicep, biting my lip as I tried to feel it up without being a total freak.

But damn, that thing was huge.

“Why are we going back to the party?” I asked him.

“I saw something strange, before I got distracted. Just need to make sure it’s nothing.” He pulled his arm closer to his body, tugging me along with it.

My lips turned downward. “What was it?”

“A few of the fae women, headed toward the building. Probably just going to see what’s happening.”

“Shit.” I picked up the pace.

“There are plenty of men there. I’m sure they’re fine,” Ervo told me, though he jogged beside me when I started running.

Running and I were not friends, but sometimes, it was worth the sweat, heavy breathing, and mental discomfort.

The party was still boomingwhen we reached the opening of the dome, and I relaxed when I saw that everyone was still having a good time. There were no female fae to be seen, and all was well.

So what were the fae women up to?

Six

Ervo pulledme into his arms and relaxed against one side of the wall that marked the party’s entrance. We watched everyone for a few minutes, and my lips curved upward when I saw Sunny still on the edge of the group, chatting with the fae who seemed to be in charge of the music.

Teris was leaned up against the wall opposite ours, watching the party. There were a few guys stationed in chairs at the entrance, making sure that none of the men went in with their hands untied, so I assumed that was the reason Teris hadn’t gone in.

I’d never had a conversation with the sabertooth fae before. In his beast form, he looked a lot like a tiger the size of a bear, and those damn teeth… shudder.

I wanted to talk to him, but Ervo was holding me tightly enough that I didn’t think it would be the best idea. In a few days, when he calmed down, maybe I could ask him what his deal with Sunny was. And why he wasn’t into her.

But the way his eyes tracked her every move told me there was probably more to the story than that. He wouldn’t be watching her so closely if he was as disinterested as she thought, would he?

I studied him for a moment.

January told me once that she thought he looked like a choir boy, but I had spent more than my fair share of time with choir boys. Those bastards would put on a charming face one minute, and stab you in the back the next. Teris didn’t look like one of them to me at all.

He was tan, with light brown hair that was cut short on the sides but longer on the top. When I’d first met him, he hadn’t had any tattoos, but now, markings stretched over his left fist and climbed all the way up to his shoulder before wrapping around his throat. I would’ve had to get closer to see what they were depictions of, but I didn’t move.

Like all of the other fae, he was ridiculously buff. But unlike many of them, there was something calm about him.

“You’re staring at another male, Mariah,” Ervo said into my ear, making me shiver as his arms tightened around me. “Have you forgotten who you belong to again already?”

I turned my head a bit, and he dipped his toward me so I could explain. “Sunny thinks he’s not interested in her, but he hasn’t looked away from her,” I said softly. “I’m curious as to why he’s always turning her down.”

Understanding flooded his gaze. When I lowered my head, his lips brushed my ear. “Teris won’t settle for less than love. Unless he feels that his female loves him, he won’t consider them mates.”
