"Noted. Are you staying with her right now?" Daniel asked.

He was terrified that Anna was alone.

"I'm not leaving her side until things cool down, I'm hiding in the basement just to call you. I don't know how much she told you, but I'm not letting anything happen to her after what he did before."

"She told me," he sighed. "I just can't stand being away from her and worrying about her this way."

"You're a good man, Daniel. I'm going to try and talk some sense to her about this 'taking a break' bullshit."

"Thanks, Octavia."

"You got it. Hang in there; she can be a little stubborn."

Daniel didn't know who he was against with this Trent character, but he talked to Ashley about his plans anyway.

"Daniel, I know you really like this woman, but you need to be very careful," she warned.

"I'm in love with her, Ashley, this isn't a choice."

"So you're just going to show up at this guy's door?" she asked.

"I know a bar where he hangs out; I'll just figure it out as I go. I'll be careful."

"That's not careful, that's insane."

"Well, what do I do then?" he sighed.

"Stay here and forget this whole thing."

"I have to do something, Ashley, I can't just let this go."

"You're a madman."

Harry called him later and tried to talk him out, but he wasn't about to be dissuaded.

"Brother . . . you sure are taking a risk here."

"I know what I'm doing," he insisted.

"No, you don't, Daniel. This guy sounds like a psycho to me."

"He is, and that's why someone has to step in and protect this woman."

Harry wasn't getting anywhere fast, so he resigned to Daniel's determined insanity.

Daniel dropped Tina off that Friday evening for the weekend at Harry and Ashley's place. She would spend weekends with her cousin occasionally, which wasn't unusual. He prayed that he'd be back in a day or so to pick her up and that everything would be fine. He prayed that he was doing the right thing.

Tina didn't ask questions; he was grateful for that because he didn't want to lie to her or make her worry.

"Don't be sad, Dad," she said, hugging him goodbye. "It's going to be OK."

"I'll try to keep my head up, honey. You have fun with Sarita," he smiled.

She ran off to Sarita's room, and he received another lecture from Harry, but nothing was about to stop him now. The wheels were already in motion, and he wasn't letting go without a fight.
