“I’m good with the security if it’s low profile. We don’t even know if Wagner is looking for us, and I don’t want the situation to screw up your career.” Finally locating where the liquor was stored, I cleared the counter. “Are there any Clorox wipes?”

“Under the sink.”

Once I located them, I sanitized the hell out of every surface in the kitchen and living room. I was a bit terrified to think about what state the bathroom might be in since men occupied the place on a regular basis.

“Hey, listen. You’re probably going to see the guys if we stay here very long.” Kane ran his fingers through his hair, ruffling the dark strands.

“Okay.” It took me a moment to realize why he brought it up. “I won’t tell anyone who is in the society. I promise. I think I might have a few ideas anyway.”

“Oh?” Kane folded his arms over his chest, his biceps bulging through his black, long-sleeved T-shirt.

“Well, it would make sense if they were your closest friends on the football team.” I eyed him, watching his expression fall. “I won’t say a word, babe. If I did, it would hurt you, too, and I wouldn’t do that.”

Kane dropped his arms and joined me on the other side of the kitchen. He brushed the hair off my cheek. “You’re not my concern, babe. I don’t want the guys to stress about being ratted out. Some of them know you’re friends with Teagan. She knows who some of them are as well. Teagan and the old leader of the society hooked up last year.”

I shoved at his muscled chest. “No fucking way. She’s never said a word, Kane. Not even a clue. I had no idea.”

Kane chuckled, and it warmed my heart. It had been an intense evening, so a lighter conversation was nice.

“You can talk to her about the society or me, but not anyone else.” He placed a kiss on my forehead. “It’s not me you need to convince, though. I trust you, but the guys might be a little apprehensive. I’ll talk to them and give them a choice to use the downstairs entrance and not hang here for a bit.”

“Okay, whatever you feel is best.” I opened the refrigerator. “Do you have something to eat? I’m starving.”

Kane laughed. “Junk is about it.” He snatched a bag of chips from the top of the fridge and handed the Doritos to me.

At this point, I was okay with anything to eat since I was stressed out.

Kane’s phone rang, and he removed it from his back pocket.

“This is Kane.”

I stood rooted in place, hoping it was good news, like Wagner had been gunned down and was dead.

“Okay. Yeah, I’ll email our schedules to you along with the address of where we’re staying. Thanks, Sutton.”

Kane disconnected the call. “Sutton is ready to send bodyguards over, which means that I would have to share the location of the society.” He rubbed the back of his neck as tension hung in the air.

“Kane, we don’t need to stay here. I have an alarm system, remember? We can stay at my place. Plus, it’s in a neighborhood, and from what your mom said, there is one super nosy lady that reports all the gossip in the area. She’ll be perfect to keep an eye on the house along with the bodyguards. And the guys won’t resent me for screwing with their groove. They have a good thing going here.”

“You’re right. It was just the safest spot I could think of when we were talking through all the shit. I’ll email Sutton your address. We can swing by my place, and I’ll grab some clothes.”

Brie took my hand. “Maybe you need to leave some at my place, so you don’t have to pack every time. Your family knows we’re together, and even if they saw your jacket or belongings at my house, it’s not a big deal.”

Kane leaned down and kissed me. “I would love that. Let’s get out of here before one of the guys shows up.”

I placed my hand on his chest. “At least you got a clean kitchen out of the deal.” I smiled, ready to leave and snuggle up to Kane on my couch.

A few hours later, we arrived back at my place. We’d made a quick trip to the grocery store, then I helped Kane pack. It was the closest I’d ever come to living with a guy, and I was ready to have him with me full time. I just wasn’t sure how he felt about it yet.

Sutton had messaged that we had two bodyguards, Vaughn and Zayne. They had flown in from Spokane and were already in Oregon. It was apparently only a forty-five-minute flight on Pierce’s plane. My family had money, but not that kind of money. A private plane sounded like a hell of a lot of fun.

Later, Sutton and Pierce met us at my house and introduced Vaughn and Zayne. I swear they’d walked off the cover of a magazine. They were as handsome as Pierce was. What was more interesting was Vaughn’s eyes—one blue and one brown. I bet the ladies tripped over themselves when they saw him. Once Kane and I met everyone, they left, and we settled in for the evening.

“Are you feeling better now that the bodyguards are here?” Kane asked.

“Yeah. I know there’s an alarm system, and you’re here, too, but just so we’re clear … we’re not hiding here. We have classes, games, and friends. Pierce and Sutton said for us to stick to our normal routines.” I strolled over to the kitchen, and Kane followed. “I thought I’d cook something to eat.”
