As soon as I pulled open the creaky green door of my building, he sat up and looked my way. A cheeky smile tugged at the corners of his lips. “Good morning, beautiful.”

“What are you doing? Did you stay here all night?”

“Of course.”

My eyes widened as he turned and slid off the car bonnet, leaning against it lazily. His eyes twinkled with mischief. “What?! Why? You are crazy!”

“You refused to come with me and I had to keep you safe.”

I looked from him over to the SUV behind and saw Angelo and another man who I didn’t know sitting in the front seats looking exhausted. Angelo nodded at me curtly. I stared back at Gio, who was now smirking at my reaction.

“So, you slept here all night? In your car?” I yelled in disbelief.

“I didn’t sleep, no. But I did stay here all night, yes.”

I was speechless. I didn’t know what to say. It was possibly the most romantic and craziest thing anyone had ever done for me. Our eyes locked and at that moment, I knew I would stay. Without hesitating, I raced into his arms, taking him by surprise as I smashed my lips against his and wrapped my arms around his neck. He froze for a split second before kissing me back ferociously and holding me tight against his body. When we broke away, he peered down at me in wonder.

“Will you come with me now?” he panted, out of breath. His eyes pleaded and I brushed my nose against his and closed my eyes.

“Yes.”

No More Tears

Giovanni

Icouldn’t stop the goofy grin plastered on my face the entire drive home with Olivia sitting next to me. I knew I had a long way to go in gaining her trust back and proving to her that she was making the right choice, but for right now, I just wanted to enjoy this little win.

I yawned loudly and felt her gaze on me before I turned and gave her a dazzling smile. She rolled her eyes, but happiness showed on her face too. I hadn’t slept in over 24 hours. And with the two previous nights resulting in not much sleep either, I felt like a zombie. But it was worth it. There was no way I could have left her unprotected and alone in the flat after hearing what Leone did. They may say they weren’t going to make a move for two weeks, but I wasn’t about to test the validity of their words.

I will kill them before they get a chance to come near her again.

Now more than ever, I wanted to put a bullet in each of their skulls. Which just made shit more complicated. I needed to ensure this plan with Sal happened because she would never be safe as long as they were alive. As we pulled up to the gate of the mansion, I felt that crippling dread returning. I still had to tell her about Camilla. Luckily, Max would have taken her off the premises for the day, so I had time to do this right. I was going to be honest. Explain everything. About my father's death, my uncle's deal with the Aianis, the plan to kill the Leones and how I was going to get out of this alliance, but for right now, I had to play along. It was a huge risk. But I hope she will trust me when I say that I will never touch Camilla and I am not in the least bit interested in marrying her. It will only be a short time until Max and I come up with a better deal for the Boss’s.

I glided the car into the glass garage and turned the engine off. She looked up at the mansion with a pensive expression.

“It feels…different now. Like I am seeing everything in a new light,” her voice was soft and quiet. I couldn’t imagine how she might be feeling about all of this. I was born into this life just like my siblings. We didn’t know any different.

“Is it really that different from what you thought? I am still a businessman. I still love, care for and look after my family. The men here are all still here for their protection. I am still the same person I was in France, Liv.”

She turned her head and stared into my eyes. The gold and green shimmering with a mix of emotions. “There is something I have to tell you.”

“What is it?” My heart immediately raced. She looked so serious. Whatever it was… it was big.

“Not here. Let’s go to your office. Somewhere private,” she replied as she pulled the door handle open of the car and climbed out.

“Okay,” I walked around the car and reached for her hand. We walked towards the front door as my nerves started to build. “There is something I need to tell you too.”

Just at that moment, Max came jogging towards me with a pissed expression. I dropped Liv’s hand. “Where the fuck have you been?” he growled. My phone had died in the middle of the night, so I hadn’t contacted anyone.

“Out.”

“Right well, while you have been out, shit has been kicking off!” His green eyes glared at me accusingly and I groaned. Turning to Liv, I asked her to go and wait for me in my office and I would be up soon. She nodded once, looking a little intimidated by Max’s anger, and climbed the steps to my floor. I watched her go with a clenched jaw before returning my hard gaze to my cousin. “What is it?”

“Come and see for yourself…” he stalked away towards mamma’s office and I followed. Once I was inside, I saw mamma sitting behind her desk with a face full of rage as she stared at her laptop screen. I walked around the other side and leaned over her shoulder as she sat back in her chair and pressed play on the CCTV footage of a hotel in Venice. I watched in confusion as I saw what looked like a small wedding ceremony happening on the grounds. The camera zoomed in on a black-haired woman walking down the aisle in an extravagant gown. “Why am I supposed to care about a fucking wedding?” I growled in frustration.

“Wait. Look who the groom is,” mamma’s sharp tone made me narrow my eyes at the man standing at the end waiting for her. The camera followed her and when she reached the groom, mamma hit pause. My eyes widened. Lorenzo Leone. Underboss of the Leone family. He got married?

“Who has he married? Who is she?” My tone was aggressive. I looked up at Max, who exchanged a look with Mamma and then glanced back at me.
