“Signorina Jones?” I glanced up at Marco's enormous frame that was blocking the afternoon sun from my eyes. “I know it is not my place to say, but I have to thank you. For what you did for those children. They have never been so content.” I couldn’t stop the tears now. He shuffled awkwardly on his feet as he looked over at the SUV. “And I think you are making a mistake. This family needs you. And I think you might need them. I have worked for them for fifteen years and you have no idea the powerful impact you have made on every one of them in the last few weeks. I hope you know what you are giving up.”

He nodded once out of respect and walked away towards the SUV, leaving me speechless. That was the most he has ever said to me since we met. I watched the convoy drive away leaving only one black tinted car parked on the side of the road. The one for me. I don’t know how long I sat in that park for, but the sun had set and the cool evening breeze made me shiver before I picked myself up and made my way back to Gigi’s. The black car crept along protectively behind me.

As soon as the taxi sped away, I saw red. I was wild with rage as I turned violently and slammed my fist into the green front door. Then my foot. Followed by my fist again. Yes, I was beating the crap out of a door. It broke off its delicate hinges and I threw it on the stone floor outside.

My breathing was ragged as the rage swept through me like a hurricane. I had lost my temper. Instead of remaining patient and calm with her like I intended, it ended in a heated argument. I said shit I didn’t mean out of fear. She was trying to leave me and I snapped. What the fuck is wrong with me? And now I have ruined her fucking front door. I am on a bloody roll today.

A little old woman wobbled towards the entrance from inside of the building, her wrinkly face scrunched up in disdain as she looked at her smashed door on the floor. My anger died down as I tried to focus on not alarming her.

“Cosa è successo alla mia porta? (What did you do to my door?)” she looked at me with annoyance, as if I was a teenage pest vandalising her property. She wasn’t far off.

“Scusa signora. Era già rotto, quindi l'ho rimosso per te. (Sorry miss. It was already broken so I removed it for you.)” I panted, with my hands on my hips.

She eyed me suspiciously. “Una porta rotta è meglio di nessuna porta, (a broken door is better than no door)” she accused, pointing her little finger at me as she stood in the doorway. Old, Italian women were feisty and you did not want to get on the wrong side of them. I gave her my best appeasing smile and saw her face soften.

“Farò in modo che tu ne abbia uno nuovo tra un'ora. Anche le migliori caratteristiche di sicurezza. (I will see to it that you have a new one in one hour. The best safety features too.)”

She rolled her grey eyes at me and tutted before waving her hand dismissively and hobbling back inside. I groaned and walked over to my soldier and ordered him to find someone to come and fit the best standard security door within one hour, no matter the cost. Climbing into the SUV, I called Marco, who I knew would be in the park waiting for Liv to arrive.

“Marco. Get one of the cars to stay behind and watch over Olivia. I am heading home.”

“Si Boss.”

He hung up and I turned the engine on and drove us back to the mansion. I needed something to occupy my mind today. I needed to focus on getting out of this arrangement but also planning an attack on the Leones. As soon as I arrived home, I inhaled deeply before making my way up to Camilla’s room. As much as I hated it, I was going to need this woman’s help to get information about what her father might want more than this marriage. I was about to knock on her bedroom door but froze when I heard heavy panting and moaning from inside. What the fuck?

I opened the door and there was my cousin on top of her on the bed, both naked and going at it like rabbits. My eyes widened at the scene. They hadn’t heard me enter, so immersed in their passionate fucking.

“You've got to be kidding me?” I bellowed, causing Max to fall off Camilla and onto the bed. She scrambled with the sheets to cover herself, her eyes large. They both looked like deer in headlights, and I fought the urge to laugh hysterically. Max jumped up from the bed, scrambling to pull his jeans on, and I turned abruptly, marching to my office.

I could hear them whispering in panic behind me as I left them to freak out. This situation just gets better and better. Does Max not realise the fucking danger he has just put himself in? If anyone had walked into that room that wasn’t me, he would be a dead man.

After a few minutes, they both entered my office, now fully clothed and looking sheepish. It was so hard not to laugh at my cousin's anxious expression, but I wanted to make him see how fucking stupid he was being.

“Testing out my fiancé to see if she was up to my standards Maximus?” I narrowed my eyes as his big green ones widened and he looked from me to Camilla and back. She was staring at the floor, avoiding my gaze, and I could see the slight tremble in her posture.

“Gio. Man, it’s not what you think. I –“

“And what do I think?” I questioned, leaning forward on my desk.

“That- That I just fucked her for the fun of it.” His gaze held mine and for a moment I was a little taken aback. That is exactly what I thought, but from the look in his eyes, there was more to this.

“I’ll tell you what I think, Max. I think you are fucking idiot! What if it had been Boss or Aiani that had walked in there? You would both be dead.”

“I know. It was stupid,” he replied seriously. He looked over at Camilla who was still staring at the carpet and his expression softened. “But I don’t regret it. I would do it again.”

Is he fucking losing his mind? Does she have a hypnotic pussy or something? My cousin is not this person. He is logical. He thinks about every situation carefully.

“What are you saying?” I snarled. I really don’t need to deal with any more crazy ass shit in my life at the moment.

“We’ve been spending a lot of time together and I – “He started but hesitated. He was beginning to look a bit flustered, losing his normal cool and laid-back aura. Shit, I recognised this immediately. This is how I felt when someone questioned me about Liv. He swallowed before fixing his gaze on me. “I love her.”

Camilla’s head snapped up in surprise as she stared wide-eyed at Maximus. I looked between them both as he turned and gave her a reassuring smile and she melted before his very eyes. I couldn’t hold it in anymore. The insanity of it caused a bubble to rise in my chest. I burst into hysterics, causing both of them to stare at me like I had lost my mind. Maybe, I fucking had!

“This isn’t an excuse, Gio! I mean it.”
