“You sure about that tiger?” He grabbed the back of her neck with an enormous hand and pulled her to his lips aggressively. They started snogging each other’s faces with so much urgency, I had to look away as my cheeks flamed. Shit. I wanted that so badly. Just to be kissed like that. My mind flittered with thoughts of Giovanni’s lips and the way his hands felt on my face earlier. I was pretty sure he would kiss me like that if I gave him half the chance.

I coughed loudly and they broke apart, looking heatedly at each other. “Laters, baby,” the long-haired muscle man growled before he walked out the front door, throwing a wink my way. Gigi swivelled on her bare feet, fanning her face and exhaling dramatically. “Now he was good! And you know you could have joined us if you wanted?” She gave me a devilish grin as she poured herself a glass of water.

“Hard pass,” I muttered. “I like my men a little more…reserved than that.”Did I?

She chuckled, leaning onto the counter towards me. “So, I like dangerous alpha males with big dick energy. Sue me!”

“Oh well, maybe I should give you Giovanni’s number then!” I added a little too bitterly. My eyes snapped up to her amused face as I realised what I had said. For some reason my chest tightened at the thought of her wanting his number. Of the thought of her doing what she was just doing with Mr Viking with Giovanni.

She shook her head with a secret smile. “No no. He is all yours.”

“He is not mine,” I gritted through clenched teeth.

“So, nothing happened between you two today? It is written all over your face, Livvy!”

My smile fell into a deep scowl when I heard that name once again. “Please don’t call me that, Gigi. It’s Liv or Olivia. And as for Giovanni, he is not even my type.” Standing up from the stool, I walked over to the small sofa and fell onto it with a huff.

“Girl. That man is every woman’s type. Don’t lie to me and tell me you don’t get fanny flutters every time he is near,” she stalked towards me with a cheeky grin and I groaned.

“You are on another level!” I couldn’t help the giggle that escaped my lips as she pretended to smooch herself. “But I will admit that he is becoming harder to ignore every day. It’s his eyes…and his hands… and that body…and the hair and…” I stopped rambling when I saw her shoulders shaking up and down with laughter. “OK fine! I admit, he is hot as fuck and I would love to climb that tree but it is not going to happen! He is exactly the kind of man I need to steer clear of. I hate everything he stands for!”

She gave me a sympathetic look as she took a seat next to me. “You know what you need?”

“One of those rampant rabbit dildos?” I asked hopefully, even though I am pretty sure she had a different answer in mind.

“Not a bad idea, but no. I was going to say a date.”

I dropped my head back on the sofa with a snort. “Not this again!”

“Liv! I can’t bear to see you like this anymore. It hurts me! You need a good shag!”

I raised my head and laughed out loud at her pouty face. “It hurts you?! And, I don’t know if you have noticed, but I don’t have a string of men waiting to take me on dates or have the ability to meet sexy Vikings in my line of work…” Giulia was a PR for a big Italian events company, and she was constantly going to fancy soirees and meeting interesting characters from all over the globe.

“That is not true! Luca is dying to take you out!” I moaned and lifted my hand over my eyes. “Come on! He is gorgeous, charming, a gentleman and funny.” She tried to big up her friend but she didn’t have to. I already knew all of this. Luca was the kind of man I should be dating. He was all those things and more.

“I can’t believe I am saying this but…fine. One date.”

She leapt off the sofa with excitement as she squealed and ran to grab her phone. “He is going to be so happy, Liv! Here is his number. Text him now!” She shoved her phone in my face and I reluctantly took it and copied his number into my own shitty Nokia.

“Really? Now?” I hesitated.

“Yes! You already know he will say yes, so there is no reason to be nervous!”

I wasn’t nervous. I was…unsure. I didn’t want to lead Luca on and make him believe I was in this for anything more than it was. I needed to get my mind off Giovanni Buccini and potentially have some fun in this city while I am still here.

“I can’t have anything serious though, Gigi. What if he- “

“I am stopping you right there! Luca likes you. He thinks you are hot. That’s all. You are not going to marry the guy. Just go and have fun and if you don’t feel it, just stay friends.”

“You make it sound so simple.”

“Because it is simple, Liv!”

Sighing, I started to type out a message to Luca. She was right. I was overthinking everything again. New rule: live life and go with the flow!

I felt the side of my bed dip. The smell of alcohol and cigarettes invaded my senses and roused me from my sleep. Someone’s in my room. Lifting my head off my pillow, I squinted my eyes in the dark and could just make out a broad figure sitting on my bed. A hand was travelling up my legs over my duvet and I kicked it off.
