“Hands,” he ordered, and I knew the score. Holding my hands out in front of me, one of the men fastened them together tightly with cable ties to stop me from defending myself or breaking any of their bones. As soon as it was done, a powerful punch to my stomach had me crippled over, wheezing. I quickly stood back up and locked eyes with my uncle again as I waited for the next blow. Another one came but this time I was prepared. I tensed my stomach and took as many of their punches as I could before I felt a kick to the back of my knees. Falling to the grey carpet, a fist connected with my left cheek and my head whipped round from the brutal force, spitting blood onto the floor.

“Not his face! Don’t bleed on my floor!” I heard my uncle snarl and I chuckled.

A hard shoe connected with my lower abdomen and I fell to the plush carpet as they both started to really go at me with their feet. They weren't holding back as they kicked my back. My stomach. My chest.

“Enough,” Salvatore commanded and they instantly stopped, pulling me back up to my feet and cutting the cable ties from my hands.

“Thank you gentlemen. You are so kind,” I grinned, with a blood-stained mouth, and they smirked back before leaving the room. I had no problem with them. They were only doing their duty.

Sitting down across from my uncle, I rearranged my shirt that had come out of my belt and tucked it back in. His eyes regarded me intensely as I leaned forward and retrieved my gun, pushing it down the back of my belt.

“That was a warm welcome,” I smiled and saw Toni shake his head in irritation. If he had it his way, he would have me begging for my boss' forgiveness. I could feel every bruise and ache stinging against my clothes as my body caught up with the attack and I relished the feeling. It had been a while since I had received a good thrashing.

“You will marry the girl.”

I scoffed and leaned back in the chair. “I willthinkabout marrying the girl.”

His dark eyes narrowed but he seemed to accept that answer. “Who is the nanny to you?”

The question surprised me and I felt my heart speed up as I held his gaze.

“She is no one. An employee who doesn’t know her place. She tried to get into the club last night and I had to show her that she was not welcome.”

My uncle lifted his heavily ringed hand to his chin and scratched along his stubble as he considered my words.

“I met her. Last night. She has a fire in her, that's for sure.”

I forced myself to keep my calm and cool mask to hide my panic and surprise that Olivia had had a run in with my uncle. What surprised me even more was that she was still alive after it. When I didn’t respond, he leaned forward on his desk clasping his hands together. “She reminds me of your mamma. Feisty and opinionated. Cecilia will always have my protection, but this girl will not. It is dangerous for her to be in our world if she cannot hold her tongue and know her place.”

I nodded once. “I understand. I am dealing with it. Mamma is very fond of her and the kids love her, but I agree she is a liability.”

He leaned back in his chair and a small grin teased at the edges of his mouth. “Good. We understand. I will allow you some time to get your head around this marriage, but Giovanni, it is an important alliance. Marrying Francesco’s daughter solidifies our friendship and gives us endless possibilities for his contacts and deals. They will all fall to us or you more specifically. Imagine the power you will have.” I breathed in deeply and nodded once more.

"Leo informed me of the Novalli contract killing. It is done." I said curtly.

He bowed his head a few times in approval and clasped his hands together. "And handled discreetly?"

"Sì. It was made to look like a burglary gone wrong. Poliziotto Evori has already closed the case, although I expect the media will have a field day with this."

"Buona. And his famiglia?"

"Unharmed," I replied. Zio nodded his head. Knowing that was about all the praise I would get, I asked, “Is that all?”

“For now. There is a deal I would like to arrange with the French by the end of the week. I am sending you in my place. It is best you take your mamma so she can look over the legal contracts and ensure it is a deal worth considering. I will send you all the information in a few days.”

Nodding again, I stood up and headed for the door. This day was just getting better and better.

Peeping Olivia

Olivia

It’s been three days since I have seen Giovanni. I caught sight of him getting into his driver’s car the morning after that night, but I haven’t seen him since. I don’t know how to feel about it. I know I should be elated, but my emotions and thoughts are confusing me. For one, I am surprised that he has actually listened to me and is in fact leaving me alone. But on the other hand, I felt...empty. It’s so hard to describe. I don’t think I even understand these emotions myself. I wanted him to ignore me. To leave me to get on with my job and my life in peace without his constant tempting seduction, but now it was happening...I couldn't help but feel a strange loss.

My days felt longer, bleaker and I found my eyes constantly searching for him around the house. It’s ridiculous, but after giving into his charms, I couldn’t get him out of my head. The whole scene was on repeat like a scratched record and I cannot tell you how many times I have romanced myself when I am alone in my bed or showering thinking of his fingers inside me. But my fingers are never as satisfying. The climax is never as good.

I shook my head as I started to pick up the kids' toys and rearrange them on their shelves. I had given them an hour in the games room as a treat for actually sitting down and doing some simple math and letter formation.

“Olivia?” A whispered voice came from behind me and I turned to see Natalia in a maid's outfit and hoover in hand. She smiled and gave me a little wave from the door.
