“Si? Signorina Jones?” Mattio’s confused voice bellowed over the speaker and I shuffled nervously on my feet.

“Hi Mattio. I need to speak to Mrs Buccini as a matter of urgency,” I tried to hide the slur in my voice but ended with a hiccup giving away my intoxication.

There was a pause and I looked over my shoulder at Luca, who shrugged.

“Please wait a moment,” Mattio replied curtly and the intercom cut out. That was weird. We waited for a couple of minutes but I was growing impatient. My head was spinning and the sting of my face was now a throbbing pain. What was going on? Why was it taking them so long to open the bloody gates? I glared at the two bodyguards who hadn’t moved but were watching us both like hawks. Suddenly, over their shoulder, I saw a large, tall figure running down the driveway towards us. My heart started fluttering as I immediately knew who it was.

The gate slid open as he reached it and he squeezed through, his chest heaving slightly from running all the way down. His confused face looked over me carefully and soon turned to one of complete rage as he saw my cut lip and swollen cheek. His dangerous eyes snapped up at Luca and before I could stop him, he had a death grip around his throat, had lifted him off his feet and slammed him against the stone wall.

“Giovanni!”

Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde

Giovanni

“Giovanni!”

Her small hands gripped my bicep trying to pry me off this little prick, but I had tunnel vision. He dared to lay a hand on her. I had never felt rage like it. I was going to kill him.

“Giovanni! Get off him! He is a friend! He didn’t do this!”

My head whipped to the side as I took in her battered face covered in dried blood again and I didn’t care who he was. I wanted someone dead and he just so happened to be at my mercy.

I glared back at the man who was turning the colour of a beetroot under my grip as his legs dangled from the floor and that's when I noticed he had blood on his face and a crooked nose. Dropping him without warning, he fell to his ass gasping for air, his hand around his throat. Olivia bent down to his level, her hand on his shoulder in comfort, which just added to my fury. She glanced up at me with her own anger evident in her eyes.

“What is wrong with you!”

“You!” I bent down and grabbed her upper arm, pulling her into me. “You are what is wrong with me.”

Her eyes widened for a moment and then she burst out laughing. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion and my nostrils flared.

“Sorry but you just look so...bossy!”

I let go of her arm and she found her words hilarious, her dark eyelashes fluttering as she staggered on her feet. Fuck sake. She was drunk.

“What is going on? Who did this to you?” I growled, stepping closer to her in case she lost her balance.

“A low life scumbag! He mugged us on the street,” she yelled in anger. My blood boiled at the thought of that happening to her. “But I am here because I have to tell you something. And your mum. You are in danger.” Now it was my turn to look amused as she leaned into my chest with a serious expression and pointed her finger into my peck. “I had the mansion keys and iPhone and... Mulberry with all the cards. I tried to stop him but he took the lot.”

I glanced up at one of my guards behind the gate and nodded to him to go and inform Mattio so we could put maximum security on the premises until we found this fucker. He had just picked the wrong woman to mess with.

“Who is he?” I snarled over her head and she turned to peer down at the man on the floor. I expected he was attractive when he didn't have blood all over his face and wasn't shaking like a leaf.

“That’s Luca. We were on a date,” she said casually, and my whole body tensed. This is the guy she is dating?

He glanced up at me and the fear in his eyes was amusing. “Why the fuck did you not protect her? Why is she hurt?” I hissed at him. If it wasn’t for Olivia leaning so close to my chest right now, I would have had him by the throat again.

“I-I -it all happened fast,” he stuttered, and Olivia glared up at me.

“Leave him alone! It wasn’t his fault! And I can protect myself. I threw the first punch!”

My eyes widened in surprise as I peered into her green eyes, the gold speckles sparkling in the moonlight. That wasn't the point. She shouldn't have to protect herself! Inhaling and exhaling deeply to calm myself down, I wrapped my arm around her waist and started to drag her through the gate when I saw the car coming down.

“See that he gets home,” I shouted over my shoulder to one of my men in Italian, who nodded and helped Luca off the floor.

“What are you doing? Where are we going?” Olivia started to struggle against me as she saw the gate closing behind us. I opened the car door and picked her up, placing her on the seat before scooting in myself. “Am I fired? I know I probably am, but can I at least say bye to the children tomorrow?”

I glanced out the window trying to ignore her drunk rambling and ran my hand over my stubble as I tried to control my emotions. I am so on edge right now. First that someone had hurt her. Second, that she was on a fucking date with some other guy. And third, because she was looking so fucking sexy in that lemon dress.
