“It’s Morgan. We think something bad is about to happened to her.”

There’s actually a sense of relief. My first thought is whatever’s going on is one of her games. She didn’t deliver enough torment over the weekend so she’s getting a head start on the week.

I take a few steps back and sit on the edge of my bad. “What’d she do now?”

“No, no.” Savannah shakes her head frantically. “Ava was talking all irrational. Saying crazy stuff like how she was going to set up Lenny and Morgan and get them both the payback they deserve. But I don’t think she was just talking shit. The way she was speaking about it… she really wants to hurt her. And now Ava’s not answering her phone. Lenny won’t either. And Morgan isn’t responding to my calls or texts. I really think something is wrong. Ava isn’t thinking clearly after everything that happened at the hotel with Lenny cheating, and Morgan sending her to the room to find him. Just call Morgan and make sure she’s all right. She’ll answer for you. Please.”

I’m still not convinced Morgan is even in trouble. But I’m not the right person. “She’s not going to answer my call.”

“Please, Cade,” Neil chimes in while Savannah keeps her red-rimmed, hopeful eyes on me.

“Okay.” Grabbing my phone, I dial the monster herself, but it just rings. Once I end the call, I send her a quick text message to call me. “Told you. She didn’t respond. I’ll let you know when she does.”

Savannah surges forward. “This is serious, Cade. We need to find her now. I’ve seen what Lenny is capable of. He won’t hold back—especially with Morgan.”

That is the thought that sends my alarm into overdrive. By the slim chance this is real and not just Morgan’s scheme, Lenny won’t show her mercy if he gets the upper hand on her.

I dial her again. No answer. Immediately, I click Ryder’s contact.

“Where’s Morgan?”

“She’s not home,” he says lazily.

“When did you last see her?” I ask quickly and apparently it tells him this isn’t just me wanting a quick chat with her.

Warily, he says, “Earlier today. Why?”

Fuck. I have to tell him the truth. “Savannah thinks Ava and Lenny are up to something and no one can reach Morgan.”

“Like what?” he asks.

I respond honestly. “I don’t know. But we need to find her first just in case. She caused a lot of shit for them over the weekend.”

Ryder curses under his breath. “Hang on.” There’re a few seconds of silence, then he says, “She’s at Saint Juliet.”

“How do you know that?” But I think I already know. “Are you tracking her phone?”

He lets out a tired huff. “I swear to God, if you tell her, I won’t ever speak to you again. I only set it up on her phone because she’s been an extra dose of crazy lately with the fire and all.”

“I understand.” Trust me I do. If anyone needs protection from themselves, it’s Morgan King. “We’re going to head to the school.”

“I’ll meet y’all there,” Ryder tells me before the line goes silent. He must think something is off too, or he wouldn’t be heading there.

I pull on my tennis shoes. “Ryder said she’s at the school.”

We’re out the door, and I’m in my truck while Neil and Savannah follow behind me.

This has to be the first time I’ve ever prayed to be on the receiving end of Morgan’s wrath. Because it’s brutal. But that is a better scenario than this being true. If it is, there’s no telling what he’ll do to her. And this time, I won’t let him walk away without paying.

Once we’re in the lot, I spot her car with Ryder’s parked next to it. He has his phone up to his ear and looking around the lot as I bail from my truck. “There y’all are.”

“Where’s Morgan?” I ask stupidly and glance around the lot.

“I don’t know.” Ryder panickily shakes his phone as he keeps clicking on it. “It’s showing right here. So, where the fuck is she?” He glances around the lot then starts checking out her car while I begin helping him search.

When I pull on the handle, it opens. Her keys lay on the floorboard right next to her phone. Grabbing her phone, I click it, and the screen lights up. “Do you know the code?”

Ryder shakes his head.
