“I can’t believe we are going to be a family. You pushed your way into my life and totally took me by surprise, and I have loved every moment with you since.” Nico leans forward and captures my lips in his, and nothing in my life has ever felt this right.

“I love you too…” I whisper, and it’s barely audible, but Nico hears, his sexy smirk evident of that fact.

There is a knock at the door, and we pull away, Nico jumping in front of me and moving toward the door.

“Who is it?” he shouts, and I begin to panic.

“Lucas,” a deep voice says from behind the door, and Nico moves to open it.

Lucas walks in, Sebastian right behind him, and they close the door.

“How are you feeling, Emilia?” Lucas asks, his accent thick, but I see genuine concern in his face as he stands next to Sebastian, looking over me.

“I’m okay. A little sore and tired, shocked, confused, but otherwise okay,” I say, sitting up and straightening myself a little, trying to remain strong. I don’t know this man, my father, at all. I catch my reflection in the wall mirror and almost frighten myself, my disheveled look not suitable for public consumption.

“I wanted to personally apologize for your brother. Hugo is an angry young man, who unfortunately hasn’t learnt how to use his brain before his brawn yet.”

“I have so many questions...” I say to him, and he nods.

“I know you do, and I am happy to answer all of them. But right now, your family is going to take you out of here and let you rest. Hopefully, in a few days, I can fly to Sicily to see you and explain everything.” My eyes flick to Nico, who nods at me.

“Okay, that would be good,” I reply, and see Sebastian nod as well. Again, my hand rests against my stomach, and I see Lucas flick his eyes down and then back to my face.

“How is the baby?” he asks, a little hesitantly.

“We will see once we get to Sicily. I have our doctor waiting for us there,” Sebastian answers for me, and I swallow as my palms sweat a little at the thought that maybe there’s a problem with our baby. But I would feel something, wouldn’t I? I have no pain, no bleeding. Aside from extreme tiredness and a sore cheek and wrists from the rope, I actually feel pretty normal.

“Good. Well, I won’t keep you. Your car is waiting, and I will see you all in a few days,” Lucas says, shaking hands with Sebastian, then Nico before walking over to beside the bed.

“Safe travels, mon ange toujours,”he says, and my heart nearly thumps out of my chest. Lucas then grabs my hand delicately, and as he does, I see Nico take a step toward him. Lucas ignores him, lifts my hand, and kisses it before placing it back down on the bed.

I give him a small nod, and he steps away, paying no attention to the two mob men in the bedroom with me, then walks out the door, closing it gently behind him.

“Are we ready?” Sebastian asks Nico and I.

Nico looks at me, and I give him a small nod.

“Come on then, Emilia. It is time you meet your Italian family now,” Sebastian says, a small but friendly smirk coming to his lips as he moves toward the door.

I smile in return. I have what I’ve always wanted… a family.

EPILOGUE - EMILIA

Nico and I have been in Sicily for a few weeks now. The amazing cliff-top mansion is nothing like I have ever seen before. It puts postcards to shame. Large green gardens surround the place, with bright pink bougainvillea crawling across the balconies. Inside houses the most amazing art collection I have ever seen. All Goldie’s work. She has FaceTimed me daily since we arrived here, and I can’t wait to meet her in person when we return to New York.

Little bean is fine, although now the size of a fig, the family doctor tells me. I have had all my prenatal screening tests and everything is going along as it should. Inside my body, anyway. Outside of my body is a whole other situation.

“Seriously, I don’t think I can eat anymore, Nico,” I whisper to him as his mom walks into the kitchen to get me more bread.

“This is what she does. She cooks all day, and now that you are giving her her first grandbaby, she wants to ensure you are well fed,” he says as he shoves another forkful of his mom’s spaghetti in his mouth.

“It is beautiful food, but I think you might have to roll me out of here.” He huffs a laugh as he looks at me.

“I don’t want you to get hangry. What if your stomach starts eating you from the inside, bambolina?” He smirks, and I slap his arm with my napkin.

“I agree. I am so full,” Sofia says from across the table, leaning back and stretching out her full belly. Sofia arrived at the mansion about twenty-four hours after we did. Swooping in and taking care of me and giving me the feminine energy I needed after all the men swarming my life recently. She knew something was up with Nico after their phone calls became less frequent, and on her first night here, I heard her yelling at him for keeping me a secret for so long. I now get my girl time every day, and I love it.

Nico’s mother and father have been here for a week. They are so lovely and very caring, if not a little overbearing. I am simply not used to all the attention I am receiving in my ready-made family.
