“You sure you didn’t only come here to check me out in my uniform? This is the only place where I wear my tight fitting black pants.” I flex my ass out in his direction, not caring who sees.

He laughs, shaking his head. “I’m sure.” He releases a long breath before speaking again. “So are you going to bring me a drink or am I going to have to get it myself?”

“You have to order it first,” I deadpan.

“Do I really though?” His eyes narrow in on me.

I tap my pen to my paper. “Cherry Coke it is.”

“Oh, and a sweet tea for my friend. He’ll be here any minute. He’s stuck in traffic.”

“Isaac?”

He looks at his phone, shaking his head. “Kevin. You’ve met him once or twice I think.”

“Ah yeah.” I have. He was part of the pet play scene too. A pup if I can remember correctly. I’ve seen him at a few events I’ve been to in the past as well. We’ve never fully spoken before though. Nothing past name exchanges and awkward waves. “Well I’m glad you’re not eating alone.”

“I wouldn’t be alone either way.”

“You’re right. I’d make sure you weren’t.” I didn’t care if it meant I had to stay here longer. For him, I’d gladly move in here if I had to.

“Sorry I’m late. Did you order food already?” Kevin says, pulling out the chair across from Theo.

“Nope. Only drinks. I ordered your tea.”

“Perfect.” Kyle smiles up at me. “Oh hey. Finn, right?”

“Yeah. How’s it going?”

“Good,” Kevin responds. “You mind bringing me a small bowl of lemons with my tea?”

As extra as I remember him being. “Not at all.” I smile softly, shoving my notepad and pen in my pocket. “I’ll go fetch those drinks and give you two some time to look over the menu.”

I rush off toward the back, dodging two running toddlers on the way. People really need to learn to control their kids. Sometimes it feels like a damn circus in here. My coordination isn’t the best to begin with and at least once a day I’m nearly taken down by being smashed into.

Sighing, I grab the drinks and when I return back to the table, Theo is holding a phone I don’t recognize in his hand and his face is stark white.

“Everything okay?”

Kevin’s hand is resting on Theo’s wrist. “Yeah. We’re going to need a little more time, if that’s okay,” he stammers.

I look from him to Theo. The corners of his eyes shake, his bottom lip trembling. Almost as if he’s on the verge of tears. Going in full-on protective mode, I eye the blue phone closer and on the lock screen is a picture of Isaac holding a stuffed bear in his hands. The device falls from Theo’s hands, landing on the table with a clack.

“What happened?” I ask, desperate to know why Theo is so distraught and why he’s carrying Isaac’s phone.

Theo stares up at me with wet eyes. “I— It’s nothing, Finn, really. I don’t want to take you from work any more than I have.”

“You aren’t. I only have thirty minutes left anyway. Tell me why you’re upset.”

Kevin glances between us wearing a curious expression, remaining quiet as if Theo and I are an episode of his favorite show he doesn’t want to miss.

“I— It’s Isaac. He left his phone at my house is all. He asked me to drop it off after I was done hanging out with Kevin and—”

Without thinking clearly, I snatch the phone from his hand and a new message is waiting. I click on it and it’s a picture of a naked guy with blond hair. It’s not Theo. My blood runs cold and I scroll down, taking in more sexy photos and dirty messages. Asshole.

I squeeze my fingers so tightly around the phone I can almost feel the screen threatening to crack beneath my grip.

Lifting the device in the air, I smash it to the ground and the glass cracks next to my feet. Suddenly all eyes are on us and Theo quickly reaches for the broken phone while apologizing. “Sorry. It slipped from my hand. I’m so clumsy.”
