I nod, too worn out to push sounds out.

He kisses into my hair and caresses my neck a few times before slowly sliding out from underneath me. I spread my arms under my wings and close my eyes, not realizing I’m sleeping until a soft shake has me snapping awake. “Sit up for me, love bird.”

He helps me into a seated position and removes my harness. Getting up from the bed, he walks over to the closest to hang my wings up before coming back to wrap my favorite quilt around me. He lifts a green cup to my face and places a straw between my lips. “Let me help you hydrate while we wait for the water to fill the tub. I’ll be right here the whole time.”

“Mmm,” is all I say and I suck up water through the straw so fast I choke at first. He pats my back, dragging the cup away. “Easy. Slow sips. There’s no rush.”

My mouth finds the straw again and I slurp slowly, the water going down easier this time. It’s cool and refreshing. My throat feels better with each sip I take and I don’t stop until the cup is mostly empty.

“Good. You can drink more if you need to when I help get you dry.” He attempts to help me to my feet and I sway back and forth, feeling off balance. I feel like I’m floating and like my feet are unable to find the ground. It’s like I’m drunk and high at the same time. Finn’s voice sounds so far away when he speaks, and as happy as I feel inside, I’m also exhausted.

Lifting me in his arms, he carries me to the bathroom and sets me on the ground, helping me get into the tub. My bottom flops down a little too hard and I laugh, holding on to the edges of the tub.

“I think you’re experiencing subspace. So many gifts you’re giving me today.”

He steps into the tub and positions himself behind me. Wrapping his arms around my stomach, he drags me back until I’m resting against him. I sink lower into the water until my head is on his chest and my knees are bending halfway.

“That’s it, baby. I got you. Relax. Let me wash you. You can rest your eyes while I do.”

I smile lazily, wonderful sensations floating through me as the warm water covers my skin. He grabs a washcloth from the edge. He must have set it there earlier to make it easier to grab. Lifting his arm, he grabs a bottle of soap and squirts a dime size of liquid into the cloth. I hum as he rubs the soft material over my body, washing every part it touches. It’s funny, he thinks I’m the one who gave him a gift today. He’s the one who took me to heaven and is making sure I return back down to earth safely in his arms.

Finn

I didn’t think I was capable of wanting someone so damn much. The need to constantly touch and be surrounded by Theo is both overwhelming and consuming. Helping him out of the tub, I dry us both off and he’s steadier on his feet by the time we reach the bed. “Sit here and I’ll get you dressed.”

“Okay,” he says with zero hesitancy in his voice.

“Do you want me to pick your outfit out today, baby?”

He fumbles with his hands a few times before nodding, his towel slipping low on his waist.

“What about where we go to eat?”

“You pick. I want you to order my food too. I don’t want to have to make too many decisions today.”

“Look at you putting so much trust in me. I promise to do my best to take very good care of you today. Is there anything you want to have a say in?”

He twists his lips. “I’d like to go to the park, and when we get ice cream, I want you to order my favorite flavor.”

Knowing everything about my little dove makes things easier. He doesn’t have to tell me the flavor of ice cream he prefers most days or his favorite restaurants to eat at. The information has been ingrained in my brain for a long time. I also know about his love for pasta and pozole. Tonight we will either be going to a Mexican restaurant or we will be enjoying a new Italian place that recently opened up not far from where we live.

“Gladly, baby. Thanks for being clear about what you want. Knowing how to make you happy helps me to be a better handler. You only deserve the best.”

He perches on the edge of the bed and his towel fully falls open, showing me what I already knew was underneath. I can never get tired of seeing him this way. He’s so bare and free. No sense of shame is anywhere to be found in his eyes the way it was this morning or yesterday. He’s perfectly at peace.

Yes, Isaac was truly missing out. He’d never get to reach this point because he was never what Theo needed. Watching my love bird be himself takes my breath away. He opens up to me a little more with each day we spend together and I look forward to each piece of himself he shares with me.

Opening his closet, I grab a pair of skinny jeans and a white sweater. I love him in this fucking sweater. He looks good in everything, but in this sweater, his beautiful tan skin stands out more, along with his other dark features. Before the end of the day, he’ll roll up his sleeves, showing off his dove tattoo and the bare wrist I hope he’ll allow me to tag one day. A silver bracelet with my name on it would look beautiful on him and it’ll let everyone else know he belongs to me.

Spinning around, I walk back to him with his pants looped over my arm and his sweater in my hands. He sits up straighter, lifting his arms straight in the air, and I smile, gently tugging his sweater over his head. Dropping to my knees, I slip his pants over his feet and up his legs.

“Wait,” he exclaims. “My underwear.”

I waggle my brows. “You won’t need them today.”

He eyes me wearily. “I—why?”
