“Because before we go to the park, I want to take you somewhere to buy you a gift.” I’ve seen him scrolling lingerie sites on his phone before. He didn’t think anyone was paying attention, but it’s all I can do when he’s around me. One day when he stepped away to the bathroom, I snatched up his phone before the lock screen could come on and swiped to his web browser and viewed what he had in his cart.

Three different panties, two lace and one jockstrap. He had added them weeks ago, unable to find the courage to hit the purchase button. I was eager to do it for him right then and there. Then I’d decided I’d wait until I was sure I’d be the only one to see them on him. By the time he’d returned, I’d already placed his phone back how he left it and was pretending to scroll mine. Instead I was saving the lingerie store to my favorites in my web browser.

He should know better than to not turn off his screen before walking away. Any nosey asshole could be close by waiting for the perfect moment to look through his shit. I was and am that nosey asshole. Only with him. I never cared enough to know all the shit Kyle was into because the small glimpses he gave me didn’t interest me in the slightest. Maybe I’m a hard to please asshole or maybe I was too busy going after the guys I was told I should want instead of being true to myself.

It led me to look in the wrong direction when I never had to travel far to begin with. The right moment hadn’t come along yet. We weren’t ready for each other. Timing is everything, they say. Focusing on how much I’m enjoying this now, I kiss his confused expression away and he lifts his hips to allow me to pull his pants on all the way.

I don’t pull away from his mouth until I’m done zipping and buttoning him up. I rub our noses together before slowly standing up and offering him my hands.

He slides his fingers over mine, creating sparks against my skin, and I yank him to his feet so fast, his front crashes into mine. Wrapping my arms around him, I steady him on his feet. “I planned to sweep you off your feet today but not literally.”

He laughs and rubs his face into my neck. “I don’t mind. Not if it lands me here.”

I press a kiss into his hair. “I like you right where you are too and later we can be exactly like this for hours while we curl up in bed to listen to a movie.”

“You mean watch?” He takes a step back, placing his hands on my hips.

I shake my head and stroke the outline of the barbell in his nipple. “No. I said what I said.”

He chuckles. “What will you watch while you listen?”

“You coming from me fucking you with my fingers.”

His bottom lip quivers. “Maybe we should skip everything else and listen to movies all day instead.”

I smirk. “We’ll definitely plan an all-day movie marathon another weekend when we’re both off. Today I want to kiss and hold your hand in public.”

“Finn—”

“Don’t worry. I’ll make sure we only go where no one we know will be.” That excludes any restaurant around here.

“Fine.” He presses his lips in a thin line. “Can we grab the ice cream before going to the park?”

“Sure. I know a perfect park that has a snack stand we can grab some at. Then we don’t have to travel to two different places.”

“Sounds perfect. Are we going in my car or yours?”

“We’ll take mine. I still want to get your gift before everything else.”

He nods, following me to the front of the house. He slides on his jacket and I grab my hoodie before we head outside. As we’re walking to where my car is, he glances around and his face relaxes when he doesn’t see my parents’ cars in the driveway.

“They are both out on the boat today. They told me they would be yesterday.”

“So you planned this all out before you knew I’d say yes?” He studies me closely as I open his door for him.

“I did, only in hopes you would.”

“I guess you got lucky,” he says, sliding in the car.

“I definitely did.” I close the door and walk over to the driver’s side. Not worrying about adjusting the seat the way I had to in Theo’s car, I turn the key in the ignition and pull onto the road.

The car is quiet for most of the drive and it isn’t until we get to the store that he turns to me and asks, “Why are you getting me a gift? It’s not my birthday or Christmas.”

“Because I want to. Isn’t that reason enough?”

He fumbles with his seat belt. “I guess so. If you really want to keep spoiling me today, then who am I to complain?”

I wrap my finger around his and bring his hand to my mouth, pressing a kiss to the back. “I’m glad you’re finally seeing reason.”
