“See you in class,” he shouts on the way to his car.

I wave him off, not stopping until he’s out of sight. Walking back inside, the warm air welcomes me. The mornings and nights are still pretty chilly this time of year. I’m ready for the summer warmth. Swimming at the gym indoor pool is nowhere as fun as jumping in the lake. At the lake, the scenery is more interesting and I can swim out as far as I want without having to stop as much.

This year I’ll be able to appreciate the view of Theo lying out in the sun on the dock. Last summer, he sometimes tagged along with me when he felt in need of a tan or some fresh air. I was too busy staring ahead to realize what I was missing out on. Little did I know, everything was much sweeter behind me.

“You’re back.” Theo walks my way with a plate in his hand. “Your mom said to come find you and bring you this.”

“Yeah, I had to walk Zane out. Poor thing is terrified of the dark.” I grab the plate from his grasp, avoiding touching him as much as possible. It’s too tempting to get carried away every time our hands brush together.

He sputters a laugh. “Look at you, always being the strong hero.”

“You know it. Now I must recharge and regain my strength by inhaling this plate of sugar.”

“You do that while I head home and hit the hay. Your mom and Benjamin already turned in for the night and said to tell you to lock up behind me.”

“Before you go, wanna join me out on the back porch and keep me company while I eat my cake? I’m not a fan of eating alone.” I quip a brow.

Tilting his head, he glances behind me and back at the cake. “Isn’t it cold outside?”

“I can light the fire pit. The stars are pretty bright right now. Exactly how you like them.”

His lips bunch together and he doesn’t hesitate for long. “Fine, but only because of the stars and not because I feel bad about making you sit out there alone.”

“Works for me.”

While he goes to the restroom, I rush outside and light the fire. I dust off the cushions of the bench and set my cake on my lap as I sit down.

“Done with your cake yet?” Theo’s voice is almost too quiet behind me.

Lifting my plate in the air, I stab at the top with my fork. “You wish. I just got the fire started.”

He plops down beside me, lifting his hands toward the waving flames. “You’re right about the stars by the way. They’re beautiful tonight.”

“Yeah. Everything is,” I say, glancing in his direction.

Too enamored with the sparkling sky, he’s paying very little attention to me, not fully catching what I said. Leaning back in the seat, he spreads his legs and our knees knock together. I take a bite of cake and before I can shove more in my mouth, he snatches my fork from my hand.

“Hey, I thought you didn’t want any cake!”

“I didn’t until I saw how much you were enjoying yours.” He grins, cutting the corner with the fork. Guiding it toward his mouth, he parts his lips and places his tongue where I was. I imagine my mouth is still there and he’s tangling his long, pink tongue with mine instead of the fork.

His moans are similar to how they were at the party, low and long. I do my best to shove my arousal down but my cock won’t stop twitching for the man beside me.

His fork dips back to my plate and he scoops up another piece to shove it in his mouth. “I don’t think mine would have tasted this good honestly.” He winks and his tongue swipes over the icing on his lips.

“At least save some of my cake for me,” I retort, pulling my plate away.

He chuckles and the fork clinks against the ceramic as he sets it beside my fingers. “Fine. Finish your cake so I can go take my nightly bubble bath.”

The image of him dripping wet as he steps out of the tub will stay with me whenever I’m alone later. Not that I need any new ones to play in my head while I pretend I’m fucking him instead of my hand. Man, I need to get a damn grip. I’d hoped within time I’d get over my little crush and lose interest the way I usually do but it hasn’t happened yet.

His arm presses to mine and he’s so warm. It’s hard to not want to melt into his side. Last time he hugged me goodbye, I was worried I’d lose myself in his arms. It took everything out of me not to bury my nose in the soft parts of his neck. He always smells like bananas and vanilla.

I lift each bite of cake into my mouth and chew slowly. I hold my food on my tongue for a few seconds before finally swallowing.

“You eat so slow,” he huffs. “You wonder why your food gets stolen so much.”

My fork pauses against my plate. “It’s only stolen whenever I’m near you, so I’m pretty sure my eating speed isn’t the issue.”
