The four of us drove back towards the compound. Everything was pretty quiet.

The caravan of Reeds was parked. Eight black cars lined up neatly against the outer walls.

“They still haven’t gone in?” Adriana asked. “Seems like right when you kidnapped me that you should have sent them in.”

I laughed. “We thought you were the mole,” I said. “So when I saw you, I was devastated that we had hurt you.”

“You hurt me a lot more than you think.” Adriana looked at me with even sadder eyes now.

“I shouldn’t have left you,” I said. “Let’s put it in the past. We have to make sure your father is ok.”

Braden looked at Adriana to get the ok for his men to go in.

“No one’s gone in yet,” she said. “Maybe I should just go and talk to my father. We don’t have to kill his men. Just one of them - the mole.”

“But we don’t know who it is,” I said.

“I don’t think Daddy would like it if you killed off his men,” Adriana said.

Braden nodded. “We don’t need more war, we just need to get whoever’s snitching on Frank out of there. How are we going to find out?”

Adriana thought about it. “I think if someone was lying to my dad, he would know.” Then she looked at me. “He knew that you and I were together, even if he couldn’t prove it.”

A swell of pride flowed through me. Braden and Carlo nodded at me approvingly. I blushed, but then Adriana took us all out of that state of horny male stupor.

“My father’s in there, and I’m worried about him,” she said.

It was right at that moment that we heard an explosion in the compound. Then another. Rocks of debris flew at us, and the Reed men got in their cars.

“Get in,” I shouted, immediately shoving Adriana into the vehicle.

“Drive,” I said to Carlo, but Adriana started screaming.

“No! My father! No!” She started kicking at the seat, and she shoved her entire weight at me as I tried to hold her down.

“What are you going to do?!” I asked, trying to stick some sense into her. Even if I wanted to, there was no way I was going to the compound now, and I definitely wasn’t going to take Adriana with me.

“Boss,” Carlo said. “I’ll go.”

“You’ll die,” I said. Adriana looked at us with pleading eyes.

“My father’s in there!” She screamed, starting to get out of the car.

“I’ll do it,” I said.

“Boss, you’ll die,” Carlo told me.

“You can’t leave me,” Adriana begged.

A flash of hot anger towards the situation swept over me.We had to do something.

Braden looked at me as a third explosion came from within the compound walls.

Adriana started sobbing. “Daddy!”

I felt Adriana’s pain. As much as I didn’t like how dangerous Frank could be, I didn’t take his death lightly. I held her in my arms, as she continued crying.

“I’ll be back,” I said.
