At the moment, Adriana was unpacking her bags from our glorious vacation to Cozumel. While we were there, we enjoyed the aquatic life, explored the less seen villages nearby, and enjoyed the intimacy that we craved as parents of a newborn boy.

Emmet was a handful, and Carlo had brought my baby boy back quite promptly.

“He’s…a joy,” Carlo said. Baby Emmet was laughing and giggling while hitting Carlo repeatedly over the head.Who’d have thought a six month old would be the one to finally win over Carlo?

Overall, Carlo had done a great job of taking care of Emmet.

It was while babysitting baby Emmett, that his musical predilection was discovered. Baby Emmett could sing and match notes that he picked at the piano that Carlo had had since he was a boy.

Carlo shared this knowledge with us, and offered to give it to baby Emmett.

I, of course, shut this down. “No no,” I said. “He’ll get a brand new Steinway.”

Adriana agreed, and soon Emmett was enjoying the piano on a daily basis, which meant that I had to learn how to play so that I could show him. Sometimes, Carlo would come over and show him too.

As for Frank, he would come over all of the time, and, though I offered him a room to live at our place, he preferred the bachelor life. Adriana would always check up on him to make sure that he wasn’t letting things go at his new place, an apartment in a small town not too far from Chicago, Chesterton.

There was no shortage of natural beauty there, and I was regularly surprised at how much Frank had mellowed out since the birth of his grandson. I say that it was the near loss of his life that made him turn a corner, and Adriana says that Emmett is what kept him going.

Emmett was a real handful and it took every single one of us to keep him at bay with his antics. Though he did manage to calm down when we brought him to the piano, Emmett was regularly sneaking off outside to get into all sorts of mischief.

Regardless, I was always mindful of my son, and so was Adriana.

There are many accounts of couples who lost their fervor for one another after their first child, as the stresses of daily life got in the way of their relationship.

Not with us.

Anytime that we sensed a friction between us, Adriana and I immediately set aside everything to make time for one another. She taught me that quality time was far more valuable than anything monetary we could ever gain.

Because of her, I left the world of crime for good, reallocating all of my assets to more legitimate enterprises. It wasn’t even difficult.

Adriana was brilliant at making great things happen, and she had shown me that life was much more than money and power. I can’t stress enough how much she has been a true joy in my life.

And of course, there was the lovemaking.

There were times when it was quick, as we didn’t want our baby boy to catch us, and there were times when we purposefully had someone close take care of him, including his namesake, his Auntie Emma.

Those were the times when we had intense sessions, frantic and wild, slow and burning, and always varied in touch and feel. Adriana was a better lover each time, and she grew sexier with each passing day.

I loved her more and more daily, and she reciprocated that love for me. I don’t think there was ever anybody else for me. She was my one true soul mate, and the reason for my existence.

Our lovemaking had gotten quite out of hand however, as we had originally planned on not having children for a few more years, as Emmett proved to be quite the challenge. He would cry for long nights, when he was first born, and when he teethed, Adriana and I had to stop all of our work to make sure he was taken care of.

Unfortunately, just like with Emmett, we had forgotten to use birth control in our excitement and enthusiasm for one another.

So it was that one day, Adriana came out of her bathroom with a flushed look on her face.

I had thought she was sick, but she knew better.

“No,” she said. “Drop everything and take me to the OB/GYN.”

“You really think-?” I asked.

“Take me now!” She demanded.

When we came back from the doctor, I assured her that everything would be fine.

“Our son needs a sibling, and besides, we have nothing to worry about,” I said.
